In a recent article on The Athletic, Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin wrote about a trade idea involving the Montreal Canadiens’ Max Domi and Victor Mete, being exchange for the Detroit Red Wings’ Anthony Mantha. The Habs centre in Domi is in the same situation as Mantha, as both of them are currently RFA’s. Victor Mete is included in the idea as a weight to balance the scales.
Since many have asked us to bring this topic onto the channel, here it is.

Wings fan here : no sir. I would want far too much, more than is reasonable for Mantha.
I think the wings can get him on the Larkin contract which would be an absolute steal (if he stays healthy).
Else it could be Franzen 2.0. But I don't think so bc Franzen was concussions. Mantha is broken hands from fighting and smashed ribs from illegal plays.
The haul for Mantha would need to be like what Ottawa got for Karlsson imo. And I know I'm asking for too much. That's my point.
No no no not Mete
As a Detroit fan, I want mantha on my team
Let's see… ship out a young big body power forward who happens to be a sniper from a team that really isn't all that big and tends to get bullied by more physical teams.
Oh, and we need goal scoring too. Isn't it interesting how other teams want us to trade our picks and marquis young players? Hard pass. Not just no, but hell no.
No to trading Mantha.
Imo, Domi, a 1st and Primeau gets Stevie's attention.
Just subscribed:)
Good joke, Mantha for Domi/Mete. This is never ever going to happen! Mr. Y is going to sign Mantha to a long term deal. By the way, good job dude, like your channel.
in what world does this trade make sense
I like Vince Dunn.
Suzuki/Domi/Mete for Mantha and I think Yzerman has to take the deal. Crazy Blockbuster Trade deal style. Lifelong Wings fan, Habs fan since the Tatar trade. I think if a Suzuki or Gallagher is thrown in the deal would be too good to be true…but also too good to pass on.
The Habs don’t need a centre and they definitely need to upgrade their right wing side.
Max Domi to the Leafs for Nick Robertson…. Straight up!
Mantha's PPG has gone up every year, and the end of 2018 to begining of 2019 season around 25 game stretch, the MLB was the #1 scoring line in all of hockey on the worst team. When healthy mantha is worth a lot more
As a habs fan I think detroit would laugh at this
I agree with you .. Detroit lost in that scenario, so that trade does not occur..
LMFAO Take far more then Domi and Mete to get Mantha out of Detroit. That's pure trash for Detroit. Add Montreal's #16 pick on top of it Mantha is worth far more.
I agree the deal isnt fair value but their could be a argument for both sides. Its well known that the league values centermen more then other position. Domi has proven to be an productive centerman when he shoots. Even in his down seasons hes still on par with mantha while playing a more dominate position then mantha. Domi is good at getting under the akin of opponents and plays a heavy fiesty game. Rare combo for a small skilled forward. Yes mantha has the ability to dominate his opponents if he wanted to. But to this day i havent seen that on a everyday basis. Nor will mantha beat defenders one on one with speed and skill. I think mantha could score 40 and at times it looks like he would in a season then he gets derailed by an injury. Hes had broken his hand twice in 2 years (not good for a goal scorer) and is coming off major shoulder surgery this year. He has only played 1 full season so far.
As a hab fan id be thrilled to have a mantha not because hes the better player but because he fits a need the habs lack someone thats not afraid to pull the trigger. In montreal domi is stuck behind suzuki kotkaniemi and danault and poehling coming up behind him. The habs problem is all their centerman are playmakers and not shooters. Domi would be a perfect #2 in detroit. Mantha would be a perfect rw trigger man the habs need.
As pointed out all statz are similar and centermans are more valuable. I think mete is the wrong icing on the cake and that cale fleury might be more intriguing to detroit. I love fleury but habs are loaded with rhd and fleury struggles with puck movement speed and offensive iq. Doesnt really fit ehat montreal looks for
as a habs fan, i make this trade all day. why does detroit make this deal?
Mantha has the best relative Corsi and Fenwick in the whole league for players over 25 games played. the team was insanely better with him on the ice. That means the team is better with him on the ice more than larkin last year. He’s a late bloomer and he’s going to be a big point producer in his late 20s and early 30s
