You know what would be nice Mathews Tavares for mcdavid. But that’s just a dream.
Auston Matthews is going to pull a Johnny Gaudreau and stab the Toronto Maple Leafs in the back just like Jonny Hockey did to Calgary if they don’t open up their eyes in Toronto. We can’t trust America stars in Canada in today’s game because today’s game is about building the NHL in the southern part of the USA. Gary Bettman has made that a priority for years and America hockey players are following his lead.
For this to work I'd go bridge since he won't do an 8 year deal. Go 3 years at his current price, while also making it bonus heavy. Make him earn the check. He won't get 15 mil. I see him getting below what McDavid makes.

This was Dubas' biggest blunder as a GM. Giving matthews the cap hit that he gave him at a term that brought him directly to UFA is unforgiveable imo. I would have rathered he sign for the same cap hit for 4 years so at least the team owned his rights after it expired. Now they either have to trade him, sign him to an even more ridiculous contract, or risk losing him for nothing. Dubas screwed this team over and anyone who defends him is a clown.
