In today’s video I go over two prospects who the Habs should have selected with the 26th overall pick instead of Mesar. Watch until the end to see how these two prospects compare to Filip Mesar.
Don’t forget to sub;)

I feel like they picked him mostly because he was childhood friends with Slaf
Brad Lambert has such a high ceiling. I was so annoyed when we didn’t take him
Love the idea of Kulich and Caufield on the same powerplay
Mesar didn’t have the best season but I remember thinking he had one of the best training camps for us at the start of the season. Would love to see him play in the AHL next year as I don’t think he ever was really committed to playing in the ohl
what is this video?
Honestly I don't mind. He still has decent potential, and he's definitely gonna help Slaf develop, which really is the most important thing.
No because it’s too early
Let’s see this year. Takes atleast a year to adjust to the smaller ice surface. Don’t underestimate how big that is. No pun intended
This is cherry picking. These players are not even playing in NHL yet. Lets see in 4-5 years, than we can have this discussion, not now.
Mesar loves to stickhandle away from the slot and into the boards, it’s not going to go well in the NHL for him unless he drastically changes his game
My problem with him is that I feel like we picked him because he is the friend of slaf when there is brad lambert that is available
To be completely honest I’m perfectly happy with Mesar. I believe he will be a good player and in the OHL he had 52 games played and 51 points that’s still a good season for a player that didn’t wanna play in the OHL and wasn’t use to the American Game and he’s the best skater out of all of the players you mentioned he’s a way better skater and is more dynamic in my opinion… so I’m happy with Mesar his ceiling I’ve heard is 70 points in the NHL that’s not to bad.. And Montreal went with Mesar as a “Safer pick” because they were going for Lane Hutson so to be honest there’s absolutely no reason to be mad or disappointed with Montreals 2022 draft they killed it at that draft getting Dach, Hutson, Engstrom, Slafkovsky, and Beck and I think Beck will definitely be a better player then both the players you mentioned definitely better then Lambert
The thing is with Kulich he's a bit of a one-trick-poney this one right handed shot over and over, there's little creativity with this kid and he sure won't get as many shooting chances with a clear line to the goal in the NHL. So we'll see in the end, I'm sure he'll do fairly well but with him the ceiling might not be that high.
There's a lot more to Mesar's game. A LOT !
It was his first season adapting to the size of the rink, the new environment, being much further away from fam & friends, the difference in play style, in the systems. First time for him having to play that many games in a season + playoffs etc. I'm not surprised at all he was inconsistent and not performing to his very best in the playoffs. Although his numbers also come from playing second line on a low scoring team which relies more on defense.
Claims he was selected over anyone else due to his friendship with Slaf are bonkers. Kid has fantastic skating : separation speed, edge work, everything. Plays a 200 foot game with a Massive 2-way commitment, has the ability to play on the PK & the PP, which he does already !. Got really good stick-handling with more than decent puck protection…And his creativity, his passing… Just give him a year or 2, if he manages to bring it all together and get more consistent the comparison with Lambert will die out naturally.
mesar is a good prospect, and he will make the NHL and be a good player. i don't know if he was the right player for us, though. we already have a lot of smurfs. i feel that between he and sean farrell, we're gonna end up having to trade one.
lambert is hella inconsistent. he strikes me as one of those guys with million dollar skill and a ten cent head. might have been worth the swing, but he could also turn into an angelo esposito or nail yakupov.
kulich was the smart play here. he went 28 but i think he's gonna be a top 10 player in his class. he's been excellent at every level he's played at, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's playing in buffalo as soon as next season. he's the guy we should have taken.
all in all, i can't complain about the 2022 draft though. five of our top six picks were at the WJC (mesar, beck, hutson, engstrom, rohrer) in their age 18 year, and the one who wasn't (slaf) was playing in montreal.
Relax, it's only been a year. Sheesh.
If Beck and Hutson pan out, then it doesn’t matter. You can’t hit on every draft pick.
Mine was Jiri Kulich.
We can't say it was a mistake selecting Mesar as of now. I believe he will be a good selection. He just needs some more time in North America playing our game. ( Go Habs GO )
You mean there are more things to dislike about Lambert
Mesar Is Waiting
Only time will tell.
Agree with you. Kulich and Lambert looks soo good. But again, Owen Beck and Lane Hutson at 33 and 62, that's incredible! Adam Engstrom aswell great pick. I still think that Mesar have a really good offensive potential. Great hockey IQ, great skating, great hands, hard work, two-way… still hope for him!
