What do you make of Kyle Dubas’ statement?

Kyle Dubas released a statement on Tuesday thanking the Maple Leafs’ organization but said he will not get into specifics about the circumstances regarding his departure. TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado takes a deeper dive into the release.

  1. Dubus was offered $25 Million on a 5 Year deal. In his heart he wanted out of Toronto. Penguins have received permission from the Leafs to talk to Kyle.

  2. If Frankie Corrado ever blinked or acted even remotely human I would assume he's a really nice guy.
As things are, I'd never want to be in a room alone with him, ever lol

  3. I made a youtube comment Thursday and I expressed my concerns about his "taxing comment". Since having a high profile job is always taxing on the families, I didn't understand why he was even mentioning it. Unless the atmosphere that he created in his house was more than taxing.
Besides, after losing against the habs in 2021, he should have traded some offence for better, bigger and rougher defence. He never did that and ultimately, that is why the Leafs lost in 2022 and 2023. I don't think Shanahan said anything that a lot of people didn't already suspect.

  4. Shanny is a goof.

Shanny fired Dubas because Dubas offered to take on more responsibly along with more pay.

In other words, Dubas was going to do part of Shanny job which means why would the Leafs continue to pay Shanny X amount of money if Dubas was now doing Shanny's work.

Shanny also failed to deal with Dubas' agent as required.

Instead Shanny personally drove down to Ford Performance Center and fired Dubas at Ford Performance Center then escorted Dubas off of Ford Performance Center property to make sure Dubas didn't take a Ford Performance Center Maple Leafs pen with him when Dubas left Ford Performance Center.

Shanny then billed the Leafs for his gas money to drive to Ford Performance Center and for the return trip home after leaving Ford Performance Center.

The Leafs have Ford Performance Center and the Jays have a High Performance Department and both are a disaster.

  5. Not really. I think that Shanny needed to Clarify what had happened, in that Everyone knew that Kyle Dubas was on track to Get More Money Out Of The Toronto Maple Leafs.

  6. Well based on the record and state of the team, Dufas was lucky to have a job!

  7. Good on Shanny and MSLE and I don`t care either way about this, but if your going to make a statement like that at a press conference, then anyone in the real world would know a company is going to come right back at you and bury you and your agent because you left them no choice and they will go to great lengths to protect there future not yours.

  8. Kyle messed up …. big time. Maybe once in a lifetime you get a raise and vote of confidence for building a brutally soft playoff team consistently with top players, top support staff, 140 Assistant G/M's (yeah, that's sarcasm) and max salaries with max no trade/no move clauses. I think he knew it was a hot mess and created this maelstrom so he could leave without fans blaming him. Well, he messed up, real good! And he knows it – probably had that feeling in the pit of his stomach all weekend. So sad.

  9. Dubas set the tone when he aired his feelings about coming back in the press conference. From that moment on, details of the negotiations were fair game for MLSE.

  10. Shanahan complaining about Dubas negotiating on an offer is ridiculous. Every contract in sports is negotiated. a team with more money than god not wanting to pay up? OK fine but it is now on Shanahan. Oh and what happens if Dubas goes to another team in the east and owns the Leafs and wins the Cup. If you are being consider for this job and just saw Dubas thrown under the bus are you taking it if offered?

  11. Lmfao!!! Doesn’t stay private when you try to ask for more money like a scumbag especially when you haven’t done fuck all but fuck the team up

  12. Kyle Dubas ought to have not spoken openly about his doubts on staying with the Leafs.
Had Kyle refrained from having that press conference, and waited to speak with his wife before making any public statements, he may still be with the Leafs.
Increasing his contract demands did not help.

  13. If Shanahan's accounts of how everything played out is correct then the fanbase and the league needs to know about it. Dubas can't expect to play in the dirt by asking for autonomy and more money after you agreed to the initial offer and then expect Shanahan to stay quiet and have everyone wondering what happened. Being silent would only make Shanahan look like he was the problem. Being transparent sends a clear message to everyone about what really happened and why things played out the way it did.

  14. Kyle kind of stated how toxic the environment can be and it is very tough on his family…he did state he had mixed feelings about even wanting to come back…if your gonna keep it private he maybe should have started without giving such details in his initial press conference.

I like the transperancy and feel the fans who fund this franchise should be in on what the heck is going on 😂 obviously to a point but I don’t mind it.

  15. If your boss says dont go to the media, and you do first chance you get, complain about the stresses of the job than bargain in bad faith, regardless of results youd be fired, unless maybe you won a cup. Number one rule of being an employee is listen to your boss, we all know that, i gues Kyle thought he was above his bosses.

  16. lol , usually when someone makes a jackass of themselves in public they wish the details to remained private.

  17. NOT A DUBASS APOLOGIST BUT SHANAHAN IS GOING TO BE FIRED SOON, HE IS THE MAIN REASON TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS ARE WHERE THEY ARE AFTER A LONG 12 YEAR PERIOD. IF THIS WAS THE MONTREAL CANADIANS HE ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN CHASED OUT OF THE CITY BY NOW DUE TO THE MOUNTING FAILURES AND MASSIVE SALARY HE HAS BEEN TAKING IN FOR OVER 12 YEARS NOW!!!
