The United States Hockey League announced this afternoon the 40 players that will be participating in the 2012 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and two members of the Chicago Steel have been selected. Defenseman Jaccob Slavin of Eerie, Colo. and Ray Pigozzi of Evanston, Ill. will represent the Steel at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, Mich. on Jan. 24.
All 40 players were chosen by a joint effort between USHL General Managers, NHL Scouts, and NHL Central Scouting. The game will divide the prospects up into two teams and feature the top USHL players eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and three skaters eligible for the NHL Draft in 2013. Both Slavin and Pigozzi are draft eligible in 2012.
Slavin, who is in his second season with the Steel after playing in 17 games in 2010-11, has registered three goals and seven assists this season.
Pigozzi will be putting on the Steel sweater for the first time this weekend when Chicago heads to Muskegon to take on the Lumberjacks. Pigozzi came over to the Steel earlier in the week in a trade with the Des Moines Buccanneers. The 6-foot, 190 pound forward has two goals and seven assists in 16 games this season.
