  1. Dubas is the most overrated GM I’ve ever seen.
He inherited draftee’s Mattews, Marner, Nylander, Reilly so he got to start with a roster that would always manage to get regular season points and be somewhat more competitive than previous GM’s due to the aforementioned draftee’s which this club was void of for what seems like a century.
He did nothing other than “play it safe” which was to simply re-sign the draftee’s that he inherited. And he completely caved in and overpaid all of those draftee’s except for Nylander.
His only plan was that the cap would go up
pre-pandemic and he would overpay more soft players to join..
I don’t see why certain opposing fan-bases are clamouring to add Dubas, he is an average GM candidate at best.

  2. 1) Shanahan knew Kyle's contract was ending. Either extend the GM or have a Plan B
    2) Shanahan has his own silo @ the Leafs. There are few hockey people on the MLSE Board, so they basically delegated the Hockey operations to someone whose CV shows no prior experience at that job.
    3) Now with no GM, and likely no coach, the Leafs have to negotiate 10 UFAs, prepare for the draft in a month, decide what to do with Matt Murray, deal with the Auston Matthews situation, decide on the future direction of a top heavy line-up, and now fill the two most important jobs on the team, all within a few weeks.
    4) Accomplishing those tasks just got tougher because agents across the NHL have to ask what kind of mess the Leafs have become. A Stanley Cup which seemed in site two weeks ago, may have been a mirage.

  3. Toronto Maple Leafs offseason should look like this:

    1. Re-sign William Nylander -I'm over hearing how he's "not worth his contract" he actually may be our most skilled and dangerous forward.

    2. Fire Brendan Shanahan, Sheldon Keefe, and Kyle Dubas. In order to win Stanley Cups you need to pay attention to intangibles too, no one ever won the Cup solely based on skill alone – will/character matters.

    3. Trade Mitch Marner -Making too much money and he's not putting up the number to show for it in the playoffs. Time and time again he's demonstrated that he's terrified of taking a hit to make a play – that's supposed to be a winning formula in the playoffs? I don't think so.

    4. Sign or trade for a Superstar defenseman, preferably one who has won a Stanley Cup and can anchor the defense – Drew Doughty comes to mind.

    5. Release -Justin Holl, so much more to say but just let him go he has no business being in the NHL.

    6. Auston Matthews can no longer command being the highest paid NHL player when he negotiates with the Leafs. Injured/hurt or not his second round performance was beyond disappointing, and it's not worthy of him getting the Brinks truck.

    7. Re-sign O'Reilly and Acciari.

    8. Buyout Muzzin and Murray then we will have roughly $18M in cap space.

Another extremely disappointing end to a season filled with hopes and solid deadline moves, but to no avail. Major changes need to be made ASAP to salvage this window of opportunity. But since the Leafs signed John Tavares and traded Nazem Kadri it's been downhill from there. Let's see what the offseason brings us.

  4. 'Done waiting' is exactly it. With the entire core quickly coming to the end of their contracts (and potentially their time as Leafs'). Now is the time to go nuclear & that's what's happened.

Sad to see Dubs (and now Spez) go, I can somewhat understand the decision, even if I don't personally like it.

  5. Babcock knew 5 years ago that couldn’t win with these guys. Worst mistake ever made. Shanny back the wrong guys. Bring him back, get rid of Marner……. Dubas was a complete disaster. Every contract he touched was a disaster……Even his own.

  6. Watch Dubis now sign with another team because his feelings are now hurt. He trades for someone like Mitch Marner or someone else on the Leafs team and wins a cup. Calling it now. Leafs luck. That's exactly what's going to happen..

  7. Hey guys how many people you know personally need to suffer from gambling addiction before you decide this isnt worth taking their money? do you require direct family? clearly the suffering of people you dont know isnt enough..

  8. Every time a team doesnt meet expectations, management will be tempted to rock the boat. You do that youre officially walking on a tightrope, if it crashes it will crash fast and will take a long time to recover from. And even when it works, youre not guaranteed better results, sometimes you just stay afloat. This pressure cooker doesnt favor patience, they will do major moves and all you can do is hope for the best.

  9. Leafs should trade to a team in need of a top Center like NJD. They have some intriguing defensemen like Simon Nemec, Luke Hughes and Damon Severson.

  10. Dubas has always sucked. Never shoulda been hired. That the same media idiots who think Dubas is a genius who single handedly made the Leafs good are now saying the Leafs are doomed because he’s gone is an outrageously positive omen for the team.

I can not wait for the retrospective montages one year from now when the Leafs are in the third round.

You people have plenty of chutzpah to still pretend like you know puck.

At first I didn't like him. I'm not a Toronto fan either tho. I knew this would be the year that Toronto would win the first round but I couldn't predict any further. I do think Florida wins the cup and Treliving is a failure more so than Dubas. I like Dubas, if he was a hockey player, he reminds me of Yzerman, passionate about the game of hockey. I see him winning a cup eventually. I hope Toronto hires Treliving. He messed up the Flames bigtime. Markstrom being his second biggest sin, Chucky was his career failing mistake as giving him a bridge deal was STUPID. Markstrom was giving him 6 years of FULL NMC. Now we are stuck with a terrible goalie who will wash out of the league at the end of his contract.

  12. 🤣The funny thing is, there is now a good chance TML won't even make the playoffs next year. 🤣

    Bruins, Lightning, Panthers, all back.
    Buff and Ott ascending.
An Atlantic Div that could take both WC slots.

And TML in chaos with new GM, new HC, present and impending roster turnover, and a Team Prez likely in his last season. 😱
