one playoff round win in 5 years and a culture of no accountability. He was a good GM not a great one. Time to move on

Messaging his grandma after all this is pretty damn cringe.
intecknicolour
dubas got himself fired.
shanny had the contract okayed by the owners and in writing, ready to be signed.

Give grandma Dubas the ref who waved off the Reilly goals home address.
SDAisaleaf
I originally supported the decision to move on from Dubas but this has definitely changed my mind. We should really be making these key decisions based on what the GM’s grandmother thinks
Thrillhouse918
Not like she’s biased or anything.
thestareater
was hoping to see Shanny go and Dubas extended, if not moved to President, and Pridham to GM. I’m still worried that we can do what the 16 Blackhawks did to their org, minus literally all the success
big_nose_juicer
So fucking cringe. Not one playoff run and you guys are acting like he put together some amazing team
Jimmy_October
What a pathetic display of attention seeking
Accomplished-Item849
Come on guys, this is ridiculous. He hamstrung himself at the start by giving 3 players everything they asked for and in the process screwed the team. I don’t care what his grandma thinks. Let’s move on and win!!

I know she’s active on twitter but all these messages at her are just so cringe and irk me, can’t people just leave them alone and give them privacy.
TuloCantHitski
You know your fanbase is in a dark place when they simp harder for a goddamn GM than any player.

This whole situation stinks to high heaven.
Burtonlopan
Haha What did you expect her to say instead? “Full disclosure, my grandson’s a scrub.”
blahyaddayadda24
Fucking hell guys.
He was not a great GM. He just came on the scene at the right time.
The simping over this guy is cringe asf

This whole taking sides thing is ridiculous. Do we care about the crest or the name on the back? My God.

No one to blame but Dubas himself. He did a solid job but never achieved meaningful results in 5 years with all this talent. While pleased with his overall body of work enough to offer an extension, Shanahan and ownership clearly weren’t thrilled about the prospect (as no one should be since we only won one playoff round).
His non-commitment and zero awareness of the privilege it is to be in his position as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs amplified any seed of doubt the organization had. Millions of people would give their left nut to be in his position, and here he was publicly waffling last minute about continuing in the role. Then he attempts to leverage that coming back with a ridiculous counter offer which was promptly rejected. Then, after working together for a decade, Shanahan receives an *email* from Dubas saying oh he actually does want to be GM of the Leafs still.
You can be empathetic as a human to the pressure he’s faced, but for a role like this you want someone that’s all-in. Someone that is passionate and excited about the future and driving this team toward a Stanley Cup. You don’t want a burnt out non-committal man that hasn’t won anything, treats the job like a burden, and seeks to be the highest paid GM in the NHL.
It’s really that simple. Kyle Dubas had the most fitting of exits: a failed contract negotiation.

Not going to miss a gm that got us 1 round win in 7 years this fan base is hilarious
