Jesper Bratt is set to become a restricted free agent, and this is the third time in four years in which he doesn’t have a deal in place. Obviously, the plan is to re-sign him long-term but it seems as though that plan is always easier said than done. Now with Timo Meier added to the mix, it just makes the chore all that more tedious. While Bratt has stated multiple times that he was to re-sign long-term, some of his teammates have questioned his commitment. Tom Fitzgerald believes that a deal will get done soon.

Bottom line, Bratt would make much more elsewhere. NJ as an organization knows what type of player he is which is why they failed to sign him longterm for big money for 3 years now.
Bratt is a just complimentary player. However Bratt is no DOG.

Just let ‘em go, wants too much and he isn’t worth it. Didn’t perform in playoffs either. Not always worth it to resign someone.
Devils can afford Meier and Bratt. Bratt deserves $7 mil per for 5 years.

You’re 100% correct on Bratt. He’s isn’t worth 8 million as we saw especially in the playoffs. If he’s not here for one reason or another a guy would target is Jason Zucker. Unlike like Bratt he isn’t afraid to do the dirty work.

Another commenter was telling me about bratt's agent earlier this year. Bratt is his only big player and he's drying to make a career out of this players contract. It's a damn shame. He's not nylander, he's not panarin, and he's a rfa. His agent is negotiating like he's a ufa. I don't get it.

I didn’t care to have Bratt back for 2022 and I don’t care if he’s here in 2023. He never shows up when it matters and I’m tired of his near misses and dekes that lead to nothing. He was completely invisible during the playoffs too.
I think most of the fan base is of the opinion we want Bratt resigned, however we aren't desperate and like you said Timo is already more valuable. Nico, Jack and Seigs have already set the standard by signing reasonable/team friendly deals, 7m×8yr seems fair and I think most could live with 8×8 but it would increase scrutiny of his play.
If Jesper doesn't want to sign long term then the franchises best course would be to trade him… Sounds like a silly season trade eps ft. Kyle Connor, pretty sure either Luke or Jack said Kyle is part of their offseason workout crew.
