[Alter] Dubas on trading any of the core 4, says he’d be open to making any trade that improves the club: “If we make any trade we’ll make sure it’s thoroughly done. I think the team that we just played serves as a good template. It wouldn’t be hastily done.”

Goes on to elaborate that he’s looking at the Panthers’ Tkachuk trade as a model.

Markedly different answer from the previous offseasons.

A change in tone. Can’t speak for everyone here, but I certainly like this.

Aww shucks, but I thought the only way to build a cup team was doing it the way Washington did it?

It’s not an outright dismissal, I’ll take what can be from that.

Albeit I’ll be equally outright pissed if it’s Nylander.

Loved everything he had to say, except about potentially not coming back. He’s a smart GM and has made a ton of good moves, and it sounds like he’s learned from a lot of past mistakes (which he HAS made, but all GMs make mistakes, and Id trust him more than someone else who could easily be the next JFJ, Burke, Nonis, etc).

Trade Dubas and Keefe first. Need fresh blood at the top and new thinking. Neither of those two had earned the opportunity to run it back *again*.

Completely agree with the general sentiment that you have to have a thorough evaluation, consider everything but not trade anyone for the sake of trading them.

The only red flag about that was he mentioned the Tkachuk trade not being done until late July, meanwhile all the core players expressed their desire to stay and all have no trade and no move clauses kicking in July 1st. That trade happened in late July because the Panthers capitalized on the opportunity created when Tkachuk said he wanted out of Calgary **after** Gaudreau walked in free agency.

July 1st is the deadline for when if the Leafs were to trade a core piece they would lose a ton of leverage. At minimum they wouldn’t be able to command the best return and there is a good chance they couldn’t make a trade at all.

That’s a far cry from we can and we will.

Well, family comes first. Glad that is settled.

Talk is cheap. Hammer out a/some deal(s) before the NMCs kick in.

I felt like Marner was going to be the reason we don’t win when he was holding out to drain as much of the cap space as possible.

  12. We need to fix the “Holls” in the defence. Gio is gone. We need better defence.

  13. Remember the Florida goal that was scored just before he chucked the water bottle. Marner’s ridiculous give away pass back in the Leaf defensive zone into Bunting’s skates leading to the Florida goal. I think Marner will be traded at the draft. Columbus wants him and they have the 3rd overall pick.

What an organization ..General Manager who is essentially lame duck right now ..doesn’t know if he is even returning commenting on hypotheticals..Draft upcoming ..players approaching no trades and free agency all within a few weeks … coach status questionable ..Awol president ..All part of the Sham Plan I guess.

We all know a trade or two is needed but is he the guy to do it? He doesn’t usually lose trades but I think you need a new set of eyes on this.

I’m trying to think of any person they could legit trade for Willy or Mitch and it isn’t easy.

CBJ think very highly of Mitch, but I just do not see anything of value there

3 way trade… Anaheim gets the best player and still retain a lower 1st round pick , toronto gets cap space and 2 good promising young players, pheonix gets a top 3 pick

Anaheim acquires marner, pheonix 6th overall pick

Pheonix acquires matt Murray, Anaheim 2nd overall pick, a depth winger from Anaheim

    Toronto aquires Keller, Drysdale
