  1. Chris Tanev was our best defensemen everyone knew that, not signing him was collectively confusing to every fan. I think he is one of the best shutdown D in the game. It makes me mad every time I hear about him and even every time I look at our defense roster period. Glad he is doing well though, love to watch him play.

  2. To be fair with Tanev, he hadn't played a full season with the Canucks basically his entire career, so you can kind of understand the sentiment of not wanting to commit the term. It's definitely on the coaching staff and management team for misusing and misprojecting players. Getting OEL at the current cap hit with his production level is just typical Benning era Canucks dumpster fire fuel lol It's frustrating to be a Canucks fan because the only justifiable move was losing Markstrom for the term and cap hit he signed on, but losing Tanev, Toffoli and Stecher as well in that same offseason arguably put us back another 3 – 4 years of competitiveness.

  3. I have come to terms that vancouver will never win a cup. The ownership is like most canucks fans, utterly clueless about hockey hence why they hire morons in management and the clueless fans get ampt up for bad move after bad move and this year has bin no different …and now it sounds like the morons want to sign an aging jt miller to a mcdavid type contract an the clueless fans are on board for it ffs

  4. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is all due to team toughness and one thing the Canucks still lack. They have a lot more traffic up front of the net which helps also. Guddy protected players, and can keep the front of the net open. Not fleet of foot at all, but one of the toughest guys out there. They have Three. Not surprised at all. Calgary got mostly the right people. Battle Royalle in the playoffs for them.

  5. It’s the Nashville effect

How many great defenseman come out of that team?

Weber, Suter, Hamhuis, Josi, Ellis, Subban, Ekholm, Fabbro…

Even bottom pair defenseman get better

  6. Canucks fans don't deserve good players. Alway demand they trade them. Demko will be next. Almost as bad as oilers fans

  7. Hockey is a subtle game. The smallest things can make a huge impact. That's why the development process is critical for most players. That's when you iron out any perceived weaknesses, or shortcoming. That's where the Panthers came in. They were terrible at developing their prospects for so long. And I hate that a lot, about organizations. Players careers are impacted by organizations who don't know what they are doing.
Gudbranson had some weaknesses, like a lot of players. But he could have worked on those weaknesses and become something close to what they had drafted him for. But the Panthers didn't develop him properly, and it negatively impacted his career. And it made the Panthers waste yet another pick that they made that was to help them move on from their lack of success. And the Panthers have a ton of similar stories about prospects over the years.
One of the worst things, is the perception that the player has to deal with for the rest of his career. Especially from fans. A lot of the player's lack of success is not his fault. But the player wears his bad career on his shoulder. Nobody thinks about the organization's handling of him when he was a prospect.
And the reverse can also be true. A lot of players who are admired and praised for their careers, had their success in no small part due to the good development their organization had for them.

  8. GUDBRANSON has a way better +/- then OEL and only 2 less points WTF is this>??? Thank you Benning for 6 more years of misery I really don't know how the trade made since to him at the time but damn Dylan Guenther tearing up the WHL it almost makes me wanna rant about Benning all decision making all day cause Arizona wanted OEL gone he couldn't haven't traded a 2nd R pick or gone to at least %30 retained OEL cap Grr Benning makes me mad he did it to save his job but imagine we could of had Guenther and re sign our Boeser and Bo and another D man for way cheaper and pick up almost as many points as OEL has had so far.

  9. I think I’m speaking from a Stanley Cup city. When the Flames follow the Sutter system who has a Pedigree or playing within a game and a team formula. They win

  10. Dont forget that Rasmus Anderson is the second round pick that we traded for sven bearcheese. Those were the days of benning and co saying seconds "rarely" pan out. I guess they were wrong

  11. Plain and simple. The Canucks didn’t have this success with these players because they didn’t have Sutter.

  12. Give credit to Daryl Sutter. He knew what he had and put these two in roles that they accepted and are now thriving. Calgary also has a system in place and the whole team is buying in, hence why they are doing amazing.

  13. This is what I've been saying for years. All the trees in Calgary lean to the west….cuz Vancouver su-ucks.

  14. Everything about this video sucks….except it was a great video. I can hear my pain in your voice.

  15. I get your mad @ these 2 guys but how many other teams have traded away player and the same result happened to them

  16. It is obvious that Guddy worked on his stretch passes and shot thru traffic. He is a completely improved different player now than when he was in Vancouver. It does not hurt that his defensive partner is another Monster is Zadorov! No-fly is gonna get thru them.

  17. This is why Sutter deserves the Jack Adams awards by a mile. He turned Gaudreau into an awesome two way forward, every defensemen is on pace for career years, Markstrom is a strong candidate for Vezina, Calgary’s whole top line of Gaudreau, Lindholm, and Tkachuk are all in the top 5 of plus minus, and they are a top 3 defensive team with no star defensemen. Their best may be Andersson? Good player, but it’s not like they have a Hedman, Makar, Fox, or Josi. They don’t have anyone that comes close to that caliber. It’s insane what Sutter has done

  18. Gudbranson is doing well because the Flames use their defense to create offense. They lose when the defense sit back and rely on their forwards to score. When their defense contribute they're hard to beat.

  19. Gunna be a huge off-season for Calgary. Could a team offer sheet Mangiapne to a number that Calgary can't match? What about Oliver Kylington? And what can they do to shed the contracts of Monahan or Lucic? Lots of work for Treliving to kick off the off-season
