Jonesy is a good guy, but there was no reason to go down this path.

    * We voluntarily made the President of Hockey Ops a powerless role. Elliotte Friedman confirmed the lack of power scared off candidates. Why wouldn’t we give Briere some support when he is starting his first season as GM? This job should have been given to someone with the power to pave the organization’s direction. Instead we made it into a propaganda henchman.

    * We hired a consulting firm just to coincidentally hire a former Flyer and longtime Flyers/Comcast employee. So predictable.

And the process of hiring old buddies of the Flyers continues….

Maybe this time it’ll be different than the last 47 years!

Oh hey happy 2 month anniversary of being free of fletcher everybody

I love Jonesy so damn much. For his hard nosed playing style. For his book – “put your head down and skate” is a great and easy read. For his excellent color commentary. And you know, for saving Lindros’s LIFE.

But I also love my mother as much as I love Jonesy, and yet would not want her in charge of the flyers right now.

He will be missed on the broadcast team.

This is wild. Jonesy was on the radio with fucking Angelo Cataldi months ago. Insane

No more Jonesy in the booth, and we hired an individual with zero front office experience to be the president of hockey ops. 😔

I sincerely hope Jonesy proves me wrong and crushes this role. Tough to be excited about anything the Flyers do lately

Tomorrow I am prepared to be whelmed when this is announced and in the future I prepare to be angry when Eric Tulsky (who I wanted the Flyers to bring in) ends up in Pittsburgh.

What a train wreck of an organization. I can’t believe people still give them money.

I’m more interested in who is going to be our new commentator?

  11. 110% love this move! I don’t care what anyone else is saying or what any of the beat writers and bloggers are saying – I haven’t even looked yet. This organization has lost what made it so great for so long and a place players wanted to play and live. part of that is direction, but the bigger part is culture. Everything they have done has been to inject that back into the organization.

The reason we have seen so many former players are connected with the franchise over the years is because of that culture. Once a flyer always a flyer. So many players set down roots here and made a life here and that has not been the case the last 10 or so years. The family environment and the pride of playing for that family has been completely absent. When players buy into that is when the winning attitude comes back and the city gets behind this team again. The Wells Fargo Center and the Spectrum used to be tough places to play for opposing teams but not anymore. Because the team does not play for the family.

It may be cliched, but ever since Mr Snider left us, that passion has been gone. Torts is a step in the right direction – he has coached here on the other bench when that passion was around. Briere and Jones both played here so they know what that looks like – but they also played for other organizations and they know what makes this place so special. Briere, though lacking in experience, knows what the modern game looks like and knows what we need to win. Jones has been super critical of the team, much like Chris Therein has been, and he too knows what the modern game is.

Jones will be great and building back the culture and getting the fan base reengaged and I think it was an excellent choice over some of the other names being floated out there.

Because when your team is broken at a foundational level, what you obviously want is a guy with zero experience actually running a hockey team at any level.

  13. Future-cthe3rdeye

Congratulations Jonesy! It may take some getting used to but I think you’ll be great.

This just makes me wonder what the point of the role even is? It seems like they’ve neutered it to the point where Jonesy’s just gonna be kissing babies while Danny does his thing.
