The fact that Matthews / Nylander were the most effective forward pairing this season, plus the fact that Nylander was arguably the only big guy doing anything Sunday, and yet they still remain apart is frustrating. Kerfoot to top 6 blue as well – I hope I find someone who loves me as much as Keefe loves Kerfoot.
I actually like the defensive change but its frustrating that it took him getting to the brink of elimination to accept that Giordano just cant keep up right now (I think hes 100% playing injured on top of just general wear from age). I really hope he doesnt take Gustafsson out – I’ve been happy with his play in both games hes gotten into to.

It’s one thing to try and overcome bad luck if the team is still playing their asses off and believe in themselves, but the way they wilted in game 3 and are heartless af PLUS having a dumb rigid fuck for a coach who is married to the same combinations and players is far too much to overcome. How Justin Holl goes from worst d-man to getting promoted in the lineup is beyond me.

O’Rielly, Marner and Tavares were very good when together before O’Rielly’s injury. I get that you want to have depth across centres but it’s not working.

McCabe-Brodie has been an absolute mess this whole series (and I don’t think they were all that great in round 1 either), separating them is a good idea. But the trouble now is that Keefe can’t help himself when it comes to Holl, which will absolutely hamper Brodie. Brodie-Lily would make the most sense IMO, but McCabe-Holl makes that impossible.

Gotta give it to him, never wavering on his feelings and going down with the ship. As bad as the core 4 have played, I genuinely think Keefe is one of the biggest reasons why this team has done poorly. His love of line tinkering and certain players along with his absolute dog shit systems. They are an offensive team that lacks offense because they choose to play dump and chase hockey where they chase with 1 player while the rest are anxiously waiting for the opposite team to turn it back. They play a stretch pass game when they have some of the worst puck moving defensemen in the league instead of having forwards come back to help and break it out of the zone.
Watching the Vegas game last night, it’s incredible how patient they are with the puck through the neutral zone and once over the blue line. Slowing down the pace, trying to find a pass to a trailing man, consistently trying to generate a chance every single rush. Even when Vegas does dump it in, it’s multiple forecheckers going for the puck, multiple forecheckers pressuring when the opposite dmen are trying to breakout. What do the Leafs do? Dump it in, give a half hearted chase with one person and start heading back on defense. Keefe has got this team playing scared hockey because they don’t want to get burned on rush chances like in the past. At the end of the day, all it serves is neutering our offense while still giving up goals because our defense can’t break up a cycle for the life of them. We give up the blue line like giving out free candy even when we are playing 2 in the neutral zone and 2 in the d zone. It’s actually insane just how soft this system is. At least back in the day it was fun to watch this team be good on at least one end of the ice. Now it’s pathetic on both ends.
