Just watched the Nurse press conference. He signed the 8 year deal. He said he considered doing a 4 year at first, but the market kinda changed the plans.
I like that the him, Leon and Connor all started together, they like each other and they make a pretty good core group.😉

As a Canucks fan I was thinking at the start of the off season we could get Hughes for like 3 years $7 million per but with all these D men getting 9 million a year may have raised his value a lot.

Let’s not push the panic button on the Oilers yet. Maybe let’s get half a season or so under our belts first. Not sure I feel all that great about Nurse being extended that term and size of contract, but it’s not official so we shall see. As for the other moves, I don’t think they’re terrible moves. Goaltending is the big question mark and Edmonton needs to acquire a true #1 goaltender somehow. I still think Edmonton has a better and more rounded roster than last year.
Let’s just see how things play out before everyone declares that the sky is falling. Season hasn’t even started yet ffs. 🤦♂️

These contracts for Dman makes the OEL deal in Vancouver look very reasonable. Meanwhile Edmonton with bridge deals had to finally cough up big with dollars and term. What a tragedy this will be, within the eight years McMoses will want out. No money for the depth side of the club, this is not the NBA – where you win with two or three players!

Man – Holland is a beast, A beast of burden for Oiler fans. I can't imagine this team returning to the Pacific Division will have anything remotley close to the win and loss column of the North Division. They are one more injury ( Klefbom ) away from being out of the playoffs.

Anyone who hasn’t been snorting pixie dust can see the oilers are much better off this season and their future looks bright. Just because Holland is at the helm doesn’t mean every move that gets done is bad by default.
Nurse is an absolute stud. Would have been one of the best available ufas on the market next season had he not signed. I’m glad we have a player who wants to stay , that goes for RNH as well (who is on a very cheap deal).
Oilers forward debt is much much better than last season.

The goal tending? Good enough to get them to 12th and 11th in the league , with one of the leagues best penalty kills (2nd best in 2019/2020 and 9th best in 2021). Their goaltending with this tandem has been good enough for 11th best in the league in terms of save percentage over the last 2 seasons combined – being 7th best in the league last year.
That’s before we account for prospects such as Holloway, Benson, Mcleod , Lavoie, Marody , broberg , samarukov , konovolov and skinner .
Things are looking up in Edmonton. Screw the haters!

That is quite the deal. Third highest paid defenseman in the league next year? They have a lot of money wrapped up in long term deals with no money left to fix the goaltending position. Instead of getting Keith, they probably should have been in on Fluery or Grubauer. Not a huge fan of 8 year deals in general. They should be capped at 4-5 tops, with an extra year available to entice your current players to stay. Unless you're talking about the 1% in the league, those long term deals never work out for the player or for the team. The player gets paid but as soon as they stop living up to the deal, which is inevitable for most, they get dragged through the mud, bought out and forgotten about.
These Dman should be thanking Chicago for this crazy pay days. They started this by over paying Jones, then Columbus had nothing to lose because they have nobody anyway and signed Werenski for a ton

Pelech signed a team friendly deal because he wanted to leave enough money so the Islanders can sign other free agents and win a Stanley Cup. Pelech is better than Darnell Nurse or Seth Jones. Pelech's contract allows the Islanders to resign Pulock and Mayfield. The three of them are the 2021 version of Robinson, Savard and Lapointe.
