With what money are they signing Tyler Bertuzi?

  2. Melodic-Bug-9022

With our cap situation, there is no room for free agents.

We need to shed space and when we do any signings need to be value signings and perhaps show me deals with risk attached to them, either someone who has been injured a lot (ex. Monahan) and is eligible for an incentive driven contract, or someone who has had a down year or two (ex. Dumba)

Bertuzzi is going to be expensive, and the Flames are already looking to be cap-strapped. We need some of our prospects to step up. Doesn’t help that he’s an anti-vaxxer. Pass.

I’d rather have Stecher back than Clifton. He looked good in his brief time with us, has shown the ability to play up or down if pairings need to be shuffled, and is basically the same size as Clifton (bit shorter, more muscle. Neither of them are huge, bruising defencemen).

We’ve got young guys on the farm team who can do what Hathaway does, for less, and deserve the opportunity. No thanks.

Kylington coming back is going to be a big shift in the roster, free of charge.

I think standing pat is the logical move for free agents…unless the “blow it up” option decides to have a visit from our new GM.

We don’t need to add anybody. Let the young guns take it in

Only way we’re adding a bigger, new name to the team this off-season is via trade.

I’d be happy if we didn’t sign any free agents who weren’t a) part of the team this year and b) who are under 30.

Play a whole line of kids and sign Stetcher is what I’m saying.

Flames have no cap space, suffer from crazy roster turnover that hampers their ability to develop chemistry and along with a toxic coach, develops a negative culture.

The Hockey Writers: “Bring in either the anti-vaxxer, the guy that they already let walk once (who spits on people) or a guy who would be, like, our 8th best D!”

  9. Trade me away some cap in Zadarov, Vladar, probably Hanafin unless we can resign reasonably. And bolster with Stetcher, and let the prospects play. Need to get an idea what you have by giving these guys real play time in meaningful roles.

The time to add is when you already have a good team that needs to get over the hump.

How much cap will we have with Luc and Backlund being gone?

  11. Vinny331

Forget about free agents. Homegrown talent is the way you build a core. We got guys coming from the system to backfill.

We go to free agency and trades when we need pieces for a run. Until this group proves that a run is around the corner, we shouldn’t be going out on a limb for anyone.

Trade Backlund and Hanifin. Kylington takes Hanifins spot, then try to sign Monahan to a cheaper deal.

    Huberdeau – Lindholm – Toffoli

    Mangiapane – Kadri – Dube

    Coleman – Monahan – Duehr

    Pelletier – Zary – Coronato

Alternatively, move Toffoli, and shift Kadri to the wing.

    Huberdeau – Lindholm – Dube

    Kadri – Monahan – Duehr

    Mangiapane – Backlund – Coleman

    Pelletier – Zary – Coronato

If the new coach likes Phillips. Try him out beside Monahan.

We really don’t have the room to sign anyone big unless we make a trade first. As of now we could easily fill our NHL roster without resigning any of our UFA’s. The only UFA I really want to bring back is Stecher but for arguments sake let’s assume we don’t resign any of our UFA’s our lineup could look something like this.

    Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli

    Pelletier-Kadri-Coronato

    Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman

    Duehr-Dube-Ruzicka

    Andersson-Weegar

    Hanifin-Tanev

    Zadorov-Kylinton

    And then Marky and Vladar
