Rickard Rakell joined the Penguins in the 2021.22 season, but the Sundbyberg, Sweden native has quite the interesting life story even before that move. Rakell’s grandfather, Åke Rakell, was a professional table tennis player, and his father, Roland Rakell, was a tennis coach. Sports certainly ran in the family. But, Rakell credits a hockey highlight tape that he and his brother would watch (which prominently featured both Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr) as one of the things which got him hooked on hockey. The forward was drafted by Anaheim in 2011, and the rest was history. Hear Raks tell his own story, see pictures of his adorable dogs, Stella and Heinz, and much more in this look into the past.

Favorite player. He has cute dogs and the most adorable sweet baby too. I’m so pleased Pittsburgh signed him for the longterm.
