There is just some intangibles that will always exist beyond analytics. The flames are a good example; they were basically blown up in the off season then built back better analytically on paper but that doesn't translate to wins on the ice. The Canucks had one of the worst starts in franchise history but Kuzy and Hughes are setting records and Miller is still a point per game. There is always more to it then the numbers; otherwise Boston should win in 18 games.
The Flames have been horrible (except their cup run) since Dave King became coach. The problem is the organization is owned by multiple owners who strive for profit first. Single owners have more passion. The Flames are like a Tim Hortons/Subway franchise; garbage donuts, fake ingredients.. all to make a margin.
Well as a New Jersey Devils lifer since day one in 82, I would have been on the phone with Flames trying to trade for Dustin Wolf. This young goalie is the best by far in their system since Kipprusoff, he is much better than Markstrom. Why in the world would they sign that contract when they have Dustin Wolf? This kid is amazing. So only question is what do you do with his contract they have a future star.
His stats are always so off it’s like he doesn’t even bother to try – somebody dangle me off a cliff and drop me so I do t have to listen to Thai absolute out of water clown

They are hard to analyze. But deep down, many flames knew that the flames of the past 5 years were not a legitimate cup contender.

The Oilers in the BOA playoffs found a way into his psyche and Markstrom just hasn’t been able to find his game again😳

The thing is tho they lost so many games by 1 goal genuinely a few bounces changes their entire season
