An elite-level, number one center continues to be the biggest hole the Nashville Predators need to fill before they become contenders again. The big question is how do they find one? Are they best served trying to develop Cody Glass, Juuso Parssinen, or Tommy Novak into that player? Should they swing big at a top free agent or trade target? Or do they take their chances in the draft?
On today’s episode, we look at the pros and cons of each route towards getting that elite playmaker, and debate whether any Preds prospect could someday become that game-changing player. Plus, we take a closer look at the pieces the Preds already have, and we ponder how much work this roster needs before they’re back in the playoff conversation.

The Preds current assets at the C position are Johansen, Duchene, Sissons, Glass, Tomasino, Novak, Parssinen, Svechkov. Johansen hasn't produced, is injured, and has two years left at $8 million. Duchene has produced a bit more, has a longer contract, but has been playing RW, as has young Tomasino. Sissons is a solid defensive centre who occasionally chips in, but is best suited to 4th line duty. Svechkov is still developing in Russia at 20. That leaves Glass and/or Novak to fill the role of offensive C, and realistically, Glass is currently best suited as a no.2 C and Novak as a no. 3 (his shooting percentage can't be expected to be replicated; he's so-so defensively, and not overly physical.) So yes, if a true no.1 C became available, I'd consider trading for one, but I wouldn't sell the farm. The priority should be deciding what to do with Johansen. The Preds could clear that contract and still open next season with #1. Glass, #2. Novak, #3. Parssinen and #4. Sissons.
