  1. I'm not a canes fan but like some of their players. Svech is certainly one of those and it sucks if he's out for long time.

  2. I think goaltending is the most misunderstood aspect of hockey. Goalies get credit when they maybe don't deserve it and they definitely take A LOT of blame when it's not their fault. I've seen established "journalists" argue that goaltending isn't important. You don't need an elite goalie to win. I've seen the opposite where tremendous praise is heaped upon a goalie for having a career year, a la Linus Ullmark. Neither is right.

Ullmark is a quality starting goaltender in the NHL. He is not elite. He plays on an elite team that has great defense and maybe the best defensively aware forwards in the league. It's allowed him to look like one of the greats. He's not playing any different than he did when he was in Buffalo. He's just playing on a much better team.

Assessing goaltenders is really difficult. I'm certainly no expert at it, but I doubt you can find many who are.

  3. Avs are really close to getting Helm back so hopefully losing Lehky won't hurt too bad but damn, I really hate to see him out

  4. Svech has struggled as of late to score. When the Canes were scoring since Mid January, Svech was getting a lot of assists but not goals. KK, Aho, Turbo, Jarvis, Necas and the D core were scoring the goals. Yes it sucks. Honestly it would suck if the Canes did win the cup and Svech wasn't a part of it.

  5. Svechnikov to have season-ending knee surgery from reports.

Nothing like losing your 2nd-leading scorer (tied w/ Aho’s 55 pts) right when the Playoffs are near. 🫣

  6. The reason there are so many injuries is the regular season is way too long. And now they're talking about increasing it further, crazy!

  7. Yes, that's a huge blow to the Canes. Not a "they can't win now" blow, but definitely a knock down the ladder of contenders.

  8. Allen is a good goalie but him and Montembault consistently have 35+ shots on them every night. The Habs have an AHL team on the ice infront of their goalies.

  9. Murray is not a good goalie, it's obvious he cant even be a dependable back up. The new additions on D may have messed things up a bit. But I wonder how Keefe is handling this lack of whatever, its gotta be frustrating.

  10. Leafs D is supposed to play positionally well and get pucks to the forwards.

  11. So having torn my ACL, I feel nothing but sympathy for Svechnikov. It sucks. The good news is that the medical advancements in the years since I had mine are incredible. I wish him nothing but the best and a full and speedy recovery.

  12. *Sigh
Felt the hit when Pacioretty went down (2nd time) but this one is just a gut punch. Hate it for the kid. Non-contact play just skating through the neutral zone. Man, he's got to be devastated.

  13. It's official, Svech is done. We lose some scoring punch and a physicality. I said earlier today, we need someone like Noesen to step up again with his aggressive play. Well he had a squared up fight against Samberg, who kneed Martinook early in the second. KK also had 2 goals. And the call up, Jack Drury, had a goal. The scoring drought is over. They scored 5 goals tonight.

  14. Svech is great, but one player is not going to make or break the Canes. The facts are this team has been the 2nd or 3rd best team in the league for most of the season minus two top 6 forwards (Pacioretty + Turbo, then Pacioretty + Aho, now Pacioretty + Svechnikov). There's only been like 1 or 2 games all season where they had the full complement of forwards they expected to have in the preseason. If they get knocked out early in the playoffs it won't be because they're missing Svech, it'll be because somebody didn't step up when they needed to.

  15. Demko very very solid performer since coming back…yeah Canucks have their #1 Goaltender.

  16. With Svechnikov and Pacioretty gone for the rest of the season the Canes all of a sudden don't look that scary anymore.
