The Carolina Hurricanes have joined the Eastern Conference arms race ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade deadline, swinging a deal with the Edmonton Oilers to land embattled former top prospect Jesse Puljujärvi in exchange for Patrik Puistola. Jared Ellis of Locked On Hurricanes joins Gil Martin of Locked On NHL to break down the move from the Hurricanes perspective. Can Puljujärvi make good on his potential with a fresh start and a change of scenery? Or will this move leave the Canes still behind the likes of the Rangers, Leafs, Bruins and Lightning when it comes to the quality of the Trade Deadline additions?

The Canes do not need a big time scorer! They have been scoring 4+ goals in the majority of their games since mid January without the help of a good PP. The Canes need what they have always needed….GRIT!!!! Toughness!!!! They need a guy like Reaves or Greenway. Maybe Rod will finally move from that bad umbrella PP and put JP in front of the goalie.
I also thing JP may be a replacement for maybe Fast who is a UFA this summer and may be attractive at the deadline for a team who needs a really good defensive forward.
