Last year there were a lot of unnecessary giveaways by the Leafs. Campbell had at least one atrocious game, and wasn't all that great in a few others.
Leafs have tightened up everywhere. This is a much better club. One year more experienced, stronger down the middle, more versatile, tougher bottom 6 and improved D. Samsonov has some pretty good stats and I can easily see him play consistently better than Campbell last time around.
Three Key issues:
1. Will To Win
2. Goaltending
3. Coaching
Leafs in 6
X factor: ROR
As for Tampa. Don't think for a minute a team that has been to the finals the last three years, won twice, isn't simply coasting along this season. They know when to dial in! Leafs will need to earn it.
I am feeling more confident after this vid
OReilly has three games on PP1. He played Montreal and they were 3-4 and 2-4 in Tampa. I forgot the Rangers public skate.
The Oilers, in game 1 of the April Kings-Oilers' series, took 6 penalties that'd resulted in Kings' PPs, resulting in 2 goals, 1 of them the game winner (scored by Alex Iafallo, assisted by Viktor Arvidsson and Anze Kopitar, a bit over 9 minutes into the 1st OT period). To a claim made by Oilers' head coach Woodcroft on the possibility the Oilers CAN be better, there's no doubt the Leafs ALSO can play better by NOT taking so many penalties. I give the Leafs a:
– good chance of beating the Bolts, in game 1 of that series, by repeating the Oilers' 1st period AND continuing to score in the 2nd and 3rd periods while shutting down the Bolts' key scorers (essentially similar to the 5-0 win of game 1 of last May's Bolts-Leafs' series)
– not as good a chance of winning said game should they copy too much of what the Oilers did late Monday into Tuesday Eastern Time against the Kings
Al's Brother is bests
Leafs in 5. If it goes 7 they become the losingest playoff team every.
