The Boys Love Rick, not so much Bruce | Halford & Brough

Mike and Jason discuss how during the Canucks’ end-of-season player interviews over the weekend, many of them spoke highly of Rick Tocchet, and not so much of Bruce Boudreau.

  1. Since Luke Schenn went up to bat for Bruce, I guess he isn't returning in the off-season.

  2. Vancouver vs. Western Conference teams were 28-17-5. Repeat 28-17-5. 2 things killed the Canucks this season. 2 murderous East Coast Road Trips. The Canucks were 10-20-2 against Eastern Conference teams. And most importantly Thatcher Demko was injured most of the Season. And his replacements were a couple of Zamboni drivers named Spencer Martin and Collin Delia. Better known as the 5 a night Boys. Bruce Boudreau, Scotty Bowman, Jon Cooper could not have won with these goaltenders. Demko comes back healthy and guess what the Canucks started winning.

  3. What a dumb comparison! Bruce did just fine until the bs from Allvin & Rutherford made work life miserable for Bruce and his coaching staff and the players! So stop the nonsense and move on!

  4. Nonsense. The difference was goal tending period. When you don't have it you lose confidence and you lose games. I watched the Canucks this year. It was like having a beer league goalie. Even Demko was bad before he got hurt. They are a flawed team, hamstrung by bad contracts. Next year you'll find out what an average coach Tochett is and how average the Canucks are. Terrible defense core. Great saves can cover that for a while but they're not ready for anything more than maybe squeaking in.

  5. Well.. we all expect Pettersson to sign a long time contract with the Canucs. But that will not happen if Elias dont belive he will be on a winning team. So what happens if he decides to go.

  6. Bad Apples through Bruce Boudreau through him under the Bus Aquillini fault the owners Doesn't know what they are Doing Bruce Boudreau Calgary candidates for coach no playoffs in this Decade

  7. Bruce doesn't micromanage, he assumes he's dealing with grown ass adults who are getting paid millions who shouldn't have to be told how to show up, not be lazy, and work hard as a team. So in that respect, you're absolutely right, the Canucks aren't the team for him. Tyler Myers has blown games for you single handedly, it's not as simple as bad goaltending.

  8. Tocchet keeps everyone accountable is helping build a winning culture. Bruce let them do whatever they wanted with almost zero accountability. The Schenn-Miller thing would've been squashed on the bench if Tocchet were there. He doesn't take BS from his players. Even star players will know they're not immune to criticism. Kuzmenko being benched frequently is tough love and Kuz will know to respect and understand that. He's been awful defensively so yeah, get better or don't play.
