Jeremy Roenick has been blackballed by the Hockey Hall of Fame. But why?
Jeremy Roenick was one of the premier players of his generation and one of the greatest American stars the NHL has ever known.. After making his debut with the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager, Roenick thrilled fans with his flashy style, take-no-prisoners approach, and jaw-dropping skills. A 9-time All Star, Roenick played 18-NHL seasons and racked up over 500 goals and 1400 penalty minutes.
Roenick’s competitive fire was unmatched and is best illustrated with his conflicted –and often painful – relationships with USA hockey peers Tony Amonte, Derian Hatcher and Mike Modano.
But his high-intensity persona extended off the ice and resulted in a series of controversial events that have often overshadowed his on-ice achievements.
Let’s take an in-depth look at the fascinating career of Jeremy Roenick and examine why – despite all he achieved as an NHL player — the man they call JR has been ignored by the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He definitely belongs in the hall of fame! Go Hawks!

gg america
Just skip to 22:14
LEGEND!!!
Alexei Kovalev should be all nhl also
Yes
Given the ‘leave him out for political views’ approach they should be leaving Ovi out as well.
I never liked Roenick but his impact on the game during that time period dictates that he defiantly should be in the Hall of Fame. It is a shame that corporate politics has to be involved in everything the fans want.
Jeremy Roenick absolutely belongs in the hall of fame.
The game of hockey is more fun when Roenick is around.
He absolutely belongs!!!
Regardless of being a moron off the ice and being friends with a orange insurrectionist clown he should be in the hall .. having said that I’m fine with him waiting .. let’s get former Hawk Steve Larmer in the Hall of Fame first
This shows how political the hof is. If a player’s stats and play say he should be there then they shouldn’t be allowed to keep him out. I’m no fan of JR but he should be in.
Maybe it’s a good thing the hockey hall of fan doesn’t want to promote an egotistical douche bag typical American elitist despite skills. Nice to see sports organizations put focus not just on skills but also the type of person they are. Try being a decent human next time JR and maybe you’ll get honoured for good things you do. 🤷♂️
No hot heads in the hockey hall of fame, only gentlemen.
He is the most deserving of a HOF spot that currently isn’t in it. JR had two tendencies that the NHL doesn’t like. Speaking his mind, and repeating conversations that other NHL people didn’t want heard.
The Hall of Fame doesn’t dictate who is and isn’t a legend in hockey. It’s just a good guide.
A lot of times these type of people are exactly the types not to be good at taking direction; and then they have to deal with a bunch of red tape to do with media and marketing and so on that is honestly not necessary.
And I think they’d be fine to go along with it, but it’s when there is a demand that they behave in a certain way without giving a choice.
Any self respecting men would turn down the fortunes of the world to maintain is dignity.
Life and legacy isn’t about money and fame, it’s about talent and leadership.
These are leadership type skills we’re seeing here. That’s why he could appreciate what Keenan did for him. That’s called growing into a man, instead of being whiny about how hard done by you are.
It seems like as the mommy era has come to full fruition, we’ve less and less been able to understand these types of men.
I wish that there were players in today's game more like Roenick. Always entertaining and a joy to watch even as a season ticket holder of opposing teams. He was a true superstar and 100 percent should be in the Hall of Fame.
How is Lindros going into HOF and Roenick isn’t? Just look at the stats. Lindros couldn’t carry Roenicks jockstrap. I’m a NYR fan and it’s easy to see Roenick was better in every facet of the game. Shame on the HOF
When the Pheonix Coyotes first became a team in 96-97, Him and Keith Tkachuk were the highlight reels for that team. They made that team, they were the Sakic and Forsberg of the Coyotes. Infact that 96-97 year, both of them out performed Sakic and Forsberg.
overrated and a punk once he left the Hawks.
The coyotes had no tough guy that's why he got his jaw broken.
I met Jeremy Roenick at a celebrity dinner. He treated me a good as a kid. Signed everything I had. Loved the way he played in the future. I was playing triple A hockey at the time.
Absolutely. For his Hockey performance. His off ice stuff is minor.
Was he better than the vast majority? Did he show up and get results?
He belongs. At least he’s not the Football HOF and still having OJ Simpson.
Put him in! Legendary!
One big thing that boggles me is that the media loved him. Being a player is one thing that could make it very hard to get into any pro sports HOFs. But I don't actually know how the NHL does its selections.
PS I say definitely a Hall of Famer.
What am I missing? Jeremy Roenick and Tony Amonte played together as kids, in Chicago, Philly and in the olympics. I’m almost positive they’re good friends.
Not a hockey fan but if his stats are HOF worthy then put him in.
When we were kids in the 90s we would play ice and roller hockey and we emulated every move Jeremy Roenick did. Including the cross checking. Hockey helped a few of my baby teeth come out.
Roenick is a prick, but the HHoF has players who have been accused of physical, domestic, and sexual violence, which is way worse than saying stupid things. Do I root for him to be there? Nah. But should he be there? Absolutely, 100%
All the halls are rigged PETE ROSE WITH 4500 plus hits and bary bonds to name a few being robbed by the HALL’s . JR is a cinch for the hall
4:33 fuckin doug wilson without a helmet 😆 the good ol days
Roenick was a tough son of a bitch and clutch player. Everything you want in a player. Damn right he belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Yes, he should be and it’s not even a close call.
Easily not a question. Insulting someone who doesn't know the game shouldn't be a knock on someone who played 20 years.
The Hall of fame has to put their ego aside and ask for forgiveness for this stupidity. Mr Roenick is a hall famer.
HOFer!!! 100%
He was a brash man,but a great hockey player! He rubbed some higher ups the wrong way!
I used to love those old Norris division playoff games, always a wild affair with plenty of chippy play
Wait you telling me in that draft that Teemu Selanne went number 10. Some gms should've been fired. Even my Kings picked Martin Gelinas that year. What a shame
As a Sharks fan, I will never forgot his two-goal game 7 performance against the Flames. I’ll also never forget him for having the chutzpah to call out Patrick Marleau for being gutless.
he deserves to be in the HOF, simple as that
100% should be in the HHOF
Jeremy Roenick is great definitely not a kiss ass should be in the hall of fame.
To me the hall of fame is all about the tangibles on the ice backed up by numbers. Nothing else. I don't care if they're outspoken, what their politics were, their religion, or how often they changed their underwear. Do the numbers warrant being in the hall of fame? In Roenick's case I think the answer is yes, especially in comparison to some other's that were put in.
One of the dirtiest players to play in the NHL.
Honestly….I'm surprised HES NOT ALREADY IN….
The hall of fame should be embarrassed by JR not being inducted by now
Him and Claude Lemieux
