I made a video a little while back on Yaroslav Askarov, the Nashville Predators 2020 1st round draft pick and highest drafted Russian goalie in NHL history. In that video, after winning the shootout, he proceeded to bench press the net in one of the best goalie cellys I’ve seen. This dude is an absolute character!
In last nights Marlies Admirals game that went to a shootout, we got another example of how exciting this guys is. Logan Shaw for the Marlies came flying down and Askarov with the flying poke check saw Shaw go hard into the boards. I cover this one in todays hockey video!

What a legend lol
That save on Abruzzese deserves a video all of its own! 🔥🔥🔥
When a goalie comes out like that forget about the puck and drop a knee on his head or ribs. I think it's a joke goalies get away with out of the crease plays.
I say it's okay because so many players run through the goalie after scoring without getting a penalty for it
If you're gonna speed you gotta keep your eyes on the road, you never know when an animal is going to jump out
Russian inbreeding at its finest
A pretty smart play if you ask me.
How is diving into the puck handler not a tripping penalty?
UHHHHH WHAT????? the second save is bananas honestly
Hopefully whenever he get brought up to the nhl, Nashville will start wearing blue jerseys again so I can actually enjoy watching him and Nashville again.
the mascot grabbing his head kills me man
As a preds fan, i cant wait for the days where askarov and saros dominate.
I wish more goalies would do this. It's sweet to see an aggressive goalie.
Thank you for the flashback to Hasek. It worked to both remind me that he yeeted the dude into the stratosphere in 2007, and also remind me that I was watching the game with my son… who was just shy of 5, at the time. 😅
As a goalie, the key to stop a break is to get back flow, then when ur a stick length away from the player you Math their speed and be patient. In this case, it would’ve been almost impossible to match that speed backwards, so it was the right play.
Hitting and fighting can be dangerous, but they’re still awesome
I played like this in highschool. That was a super clean pokecheck. Hit the puck first.
I love the poke check, goalies should use it more often.
It's hilarious that the Marlies Captain thinks he has anything to say after that he got caught off-guard with an aggressive play and look like a fool falling into the boards that's on him. The Maple Leafs have always been crybabies up and down their entire organization it'll be great to see the Maple Leafs exit the playoffs in round one or two this year
Not to mention Askarov started a goalie fight with Remi Poirier a few weeks back! I was there and Askarov clearly started it by nodding and waving down at Poirier
Shaw is just being a b1tch.
This is why Askarov is my favorite goalie and he plays for a team close to me less than an hour way less
Nashville GM Mode legend
Question—-why did Hasek get a penalty??
He didn't go that far out the goal anyway, can't just let the man score but the other video of the goalie going out was a bit dangerous.
The flying poke check is under used
Without Risk there is no reward!
That's the fastest I've seen a goalie go from the net to the bench… lol
I remember akasarov getting drafted, never really knew what happened to him until i clicked on this video today. Well, here I am a few years later.
Incredible spirit from a goalie, something you do and don't want to see. hard to say…
Milwaukee needs an NHL team.
GO ADMIRALS!!
players are allowed to crash the net and go around and through the paint with the puck all the time, why cant a goalie diving pokecheck? same principle
BaconCountry 🥓 would be proud of this classic aggressive goalie!
and the Oilers who need a goalie since forever, trade their dradt pick to Nashville and the Preds took him, oilers what a stupid organisation !!!
‘Dangerous’ meanwhile we have sports where cross checking is legal.
Excellent play by a clearly intelligent goaltender.
You make a gamble going full speed like that, you gotta shoot quick before you eat on the boards, or pull up a lot and hopefully not lose an edge.
No issue with the goaltending, you can’t go full speed with expecting a goaltender to challenge.
This guy giving off MAF vibes and I'm all for it
It’s called the Stauber! Kings legend nicknamed blue line for a reason. He would charge dudes who were on breakaways all the time.
Dude, the other Ads goalie, Cooley has the sickest quick glove. Preds are going to look nasty when these guys make the big club
All and good, I like him, but I will say this, the game of ho key has a way of creating balance, so, as a goalie, you can be just like this guy, but trust, one day, hockey will come for you.
