Wow this is harsh. The NHL has taken away the Arizona Coyotes’ 2020 2nd round draft pick, and their 2021 1st round draft pick as a result of breaking the NHL’s prospects combine testing policy.

The Coyotes now do not have a 1st round selection in either the 2020 or 2021 NHL Entry Drafts.

The current NHL rankings for the 2020 NHL Draft go as follows:

1st) New York Rangers
2nd) Los Angeles Kings
3rd) Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks)
4th) Detroit Red Wings
5th) Ottawa Senators
6th) Anaheim Ducks
7th) New Jersey Devils
8th) Buffalo Sabres
9th) Minnesota Wild
10th) Winnipeg Jets
11th) Nashville Predators
12th) Florida Panthers
13th) Carolina Hurricanes (from Toronto Maple Leafs)
14th) Edmonton Oilers
15th) Toronto Maple Leafs (Pittsburgh Penguins)
16th) Montreal Canadiens
17th) Chicago Blackhawks
18th) New Jersey Devils (from Arizona Coyotes)
19th) Calgary Flames

The draft is stacked with guys like Alexis Lafrenière at the top, with Quinton Byfield, Tim Stützle, Lucas Raymond, Alexander Holtz, Jamie Drysdale, Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, Jake Sanderson, and Yaroslav Askarov rounding out the top 10. 1. So for the next 2 drafts, everybody else gets to move up one slot higher for the entirety of the draft, behind these 2 respective forfeited picks.

  2. Question: because of the forfeited pick does that mean there will just be one less pick in total this year and next year?
Now that I type this that seems obvious but I just want to be sure.

  3. Damn. Arizona got punished harder for illegal scouting tactics than a team that blatantly cheated its way to two World Series. Honestly I respect the NHL for setting the bar with this.

  4. Oh boy did he go hard. We don’t know how much they lied to the league in the process of their tests but I would guess they really have gone too far and that’s why the punishment so big.

  5. Bergevin has a lot of draft picks this year and next year, should offer a second or third for Hall's contract and start negotiating right away. If that doesn't work then he can focus on a major trade.

  6. Gary Bettman punished his favorite team? The team that he made his personal crusade, to keep them in the Arizona desert? Wow. Now the Coyotes have the burden of trying to explain this to their fans and season ticket holders. Good luck with that!

  7. Damn they couldn't have just given them the last pick in those rounds? This is really harsh and almost threatens league parity

  8. Rules are Rules for a reason! Take away draft pick is fair! They know things about them players other teams don't! I think that new owner thinks he can do whatever he wants! He's new and got what he had COMING! RULES OR RULES FOR A REASON IN THE NHL

  9. Does this mean that teams will technically get bumped up a spot earlier to draft in the second round?

  10. here is a question could it be possible for a team to trade their 1st round for 2021 or 2nd round for 2020 to the yotes for prospects or players ?

  11. Man, it's gotta suck to be a Coyotes fan. What a bunch of idiots to do this. Harsh punishment too. I wonder if they asked the league for permission and were turned down, then went ahead anyway? Would explain the harshness of the penalty.

  12. hello quebec city, although bettman would block any attempt to move one of his babies, who lose money like trump.

  13. Seriously how is the NHL still trying to have a team in Arizona after decades of failure is beyond me….with all due respect to Shane Doan

  14. "Look what the NHL did to the Arizona Coyotes!"

Uhm… look at what the Arizona Coyotes did to themselves.
