It absolutely needs to be banned via a shot timer. And for all the Caps fans who are saying "goalies just need to be more aggressive" or "goalies need to figure out how to stop him" "they shouldn't change the rules because a player is too successful." Ok. I'll agree. Give all the goalies back their gear specs before the NHL fucked over all the goaltenders by reducing their gear because goalies were keeping scoring down by making too many saves. Shooters just need to figure out how to score. While you're at it, take away the trapezoid, or the "Brodeur rule", which was put in place because goalies were "taking away scoring chances" by playing the puck.
The NHL has no problem with altering the rules to fuck goalies and make it easier for players to score. Back in the day, how often did you see a 7-5 game or a double-digit game? Hardly ever. Now, it's common to see a 6-4 or 7-5 game. Of course, they still keep goaltenders out of the HoF by gatekeeping with stats the league has ruined, but I guess the goalies just need to "figure it out"…and I guarantee that when they do, the NHL will change the rules again to make it easier to score.
Well he might be at 44% success in shootouts this year (2023) but….it didn't help the Caps get to the playoffs. LOL
I was calling Patrick Kane out for his extremely similar tactics before Kuznetsov came to the states let's not blame it entirely in one person here
I never understood what was wrong with going to overtime? I'd rather the game end in a tie then end in a shootout.
I woman in high heels. That’s what I need to help me understand and it
Poke check
How is this controversial? It's a move that work about 40% of the time. And the everage is 35%.
The guy seems to always score every time I see it
I’m no fan of him but a hockey fan none the less and It’s a shot and a goal no matter how greasy a goal is a goal and goal tenders will have to learn to adapt just as with any shot attempt aka the lacross goal hahaha
This guy beat the System and he deserves it. No reason it should be banned
He’s outplaying the goalies. I’m Sure the goalies on my team have been burned by this move as well. Juliet, from my head about his move is if he pushes the park forward and he doesn’t have control of the puck as it slides into O zone
Winding up the benches and the crowd is part of the deception. It gives the goalie one more thing to be irritated about when he already has too much on his plate.
Goalies need to come out to the hash marks to defend against this, and prepare a two pad stack poke check to disrupt what he’s trying to do.
Who cares. There are two things that don’t exist in the playoffs:
1) Shootouts
2) the Caps
I love this shot
All they have to do is a flying poke check
I think problems would start, if every shoter uses 20+ seconds… It would get a bit boring. Now most of haters are on losing site…
They just need to extend OT to 10 or 15 minutes.
Don't understand why it would be illegal. Kuznetsov isn't the only one who can do it, and it's not like goalies can't stop it. Just a bunch of soft fans
If it was McDavid or Crosby doing the slow shootout move, everyone would praise it. People just need to shut up.
Maybe some smart goalie will eventually figure out a way to charge out and poke the puck away, and Kuznetsov will have to go back to the drawing board? All part of the game, seem to me.
this isn’t an unfair move but i hate the shootout, they need to bring it back to continues overt time it just doesn’t make sense to have the game despised this way.
Pope Check. Attack the shooter
GetsNutsOff 🤪😝
I say leave it alone and give it a year or two. Goalies will learn a new way to adapt to the move and it won’t work anymore. Then, people will start complaining about how goalies need smaller pads or bigger nets or have to stand backwards. Its part of the evolution of the game, and it puts pucks into the net (which is what the NHL has been trying to do forever). It’s not like every single player on the shootout doesn’t have the same opportunity to do the move, and it’s only creating a 40-something % success rate. I might feel differently if it was 90-something % and no one else could do it, but it’s not even close.
Used to do this to my brother all the time, works like a charm 😎
It shouldn't be banned or on a time limit, the goalies just have to figure out how to save the puck on this shot, especially after he has done it many times.
Skill issue.
I think the way to fix all of the ridiculous slow motion junk that shooters do in the shootouts after the overtime, is to change the current shootout. Two possible options could be;
A). Make it a real game play. My suggestion is to have a defensive player stand at the blue line or at some spot behind the shooter, and the shooter stands ready at the Center face off dot. The referee blows his whistle and the race and the breakaway attempt is on. This might make it more interesting and exciting. Defensive penaties result in another Penalty Shot being awarded just like in a game (with no defensive player on the ice to back check).
B).in this option is to have a time clock and if you (whatever the time needed to skate in at your fastest and make a deke or take a shot), and if the player does not score before the timer elapses, then no goal. Again starting on the ref’s whistle, the player is forced to act more like a breakaway and not do all of the current slow motion non hockey play stuff. This could be done for all penalty shots (during the game and after overtime).
Or just do away with shootouts to decide games.
if everyone does this… ban it. Only him, well… everyone else is stuuuupped for not doing this as well.
Patrick Kane started it. And if it is so easy, why don't more players do it?
The Caps rarely make it past the first minute of OT anyway…
I mean, with how the refs call a shot missed when other people attempt it, it's kinda bullshit. But it gets results so it's the kind of bullshit that can keep a machine running so, yes it's angering but, he follows the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," so hard to stay mad at it
Having a shootout to determine a winner, despite the loser getting a point, and totally going against the whole "hockey is a team sport", or "win as a team, lose as a team", and so on, is….

The rule states that the puck must always maintain a forward movement. Well, on the pull back when moving this slow the puck stops moving forward and sometimes even moves backward, albeit very briefly. If they tracked the puck on screen and denied the goal if this happened, it would force players to maintain forward speed.
Honestly couldn’t care less just let him do his thing don’t get why people hv a problem with it…
Maybe it’s just to good
Simply allow a defender to chase you from the blue line.
It would be like a breakaway shoot out.
