Other than Husso, who should be a part of Detroit’s goalie tandem next season? Bring back Ned / Hellberg, or look for a new backup?

  1. I’d like to bring in a new backup personally. We know what Hellberg and Ned are at this point. Might as well take a gamble on bringing in someone else in free agency. Maybe someone who has looked good in limited action similar to how Ned looked in Carolina or Husso in St. Louis.

  2. I’d be open to giving Ned another shot because I think he will rebound and he’s very popular in the locker room.

Hellberg, good luck to ya bud.

I’d be pretty surprised if we spend much money in free agency next season but adding a good goalie should be top of the list. Husso was overwhelmed and overworked. Korpisalo, Hill are pretty good ufas. I can’t see yzerman trading a pick again for someone.

I think Freddy Anderson is a pending FA

I’d probably prefer a new option, but the FA pool is either old or not great which I don’t love. Wouldn’t be the end of the world if we ran it back with Ned or Hellberg, but I think both have shown that they are middling backups at best with Ned having higher highs and lower lows.

Korpisalo and Hill would be my top two. Ned would be an OK consolation.

I wouldn’t mind a new one. I’m not sure Ned can be consistent enough for the Red Wings

I would prefer a new backup, but wouldn’t be mad it if it were Ned either

I still think Ned is gone, but I swear he’s gonna go to a decent team and do well. Hellberg is a classic 3rd stringer imo. Likely a new guy will come in, but don’t expect a big name, yzerman might want Cossa to have a small shot at the backup spot at preseason

Let’s see how Neddy does through the end of the season

He seemed to get his feet back under him in GR

  11. Flowsnice

I have a hard time believe Stevie will bring back Ned since he left him in Grand Rapids all season even though Hellberg has been terrible also.

I like Ned! I don’t think we are a very competitive team next year so giving Ned a chance may pay off big time. Low risk high reward

If we can get Ned on a good contract, he could be nice deadline trade material when Cosas Is ready. Or if Ned improves, we could have a keeper. It’s a low risk situation if he’ll sign low.

We need better goaltending to be competitive. We have been too inconsistent this year. Husso started great but has been mediocre the 2nd half of the year. This team is built to win low scoring games. I’d move on from Ned. He’s not great with his lateral movement. He’s out of position too much. I think Husso is best served as a solid backup. That’s my unpopular opinion. I expect yzerman to make another offseason goalie move.

I don’t mind keeping Ned, buddy was being asked to stand on his head his entire time here and I’m sure that was exhausting mentally, emotionally, and physically. If he falls flat from here in out I’d get if Yzerman and Newsy passed on him, but he’s done well since coming back and has bailed us out a few times. Price and production depending, Keep him here

Shouldn’t put this much thought into it. There’s no must have free agent this year and Ned can handle 30 some starts per season. Just put a decent team in front of him and Husso and we won’t have to worry about them playing at such a high level all year.

I welcome Ned back if he’s found his game again. He should have been called up sooner but Hellberg was playing well. I don’t see why we wouldn’t give him another 2 year deal at a reasonable cost if he’s interested.

  18. magikarp-sushi

Ned would probably be just fine if they don’t find anything else somewhere

  19. redwingsHELLyea

I think they will talk it out and he will test the market to try to get a starting job if not he will be our backup maybe

  20. Santa_Claus77

I think we should give Ned a second chance. My boy killed it against the leafs last night. Plus, I think he’s well liked amongst the other guys.

Rolling the dice again on signing a free agent.

I don’t get how Ned vs Hellberg is even a discussion. Ned has proven himself in this league with Carolina and he’s still young. Just needed a good reset in GR this year. Hellberg is 32 and has had multiple chances with multiple teams. Ned all the way.
