Ottawa Senators Slim Playoff Hopes Crash Down After Disastrous Weekend + Sens Prospect Update

An extremely disappointing weekend for the Ottawa Senators that saw them shutout by the Toronto Maple Leafs then collapse in overtime against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan try to pick up the pieces after what little hope this team had of sneaking into a Wild Card spot is all but gone. Cam Talbot had a tough night and isn’t exactly putting his best foot forward to signing an extension with Ottawa. We go over the weekend in Belleville as they split their two games against the Toronto Marlies, including Leevi Merilainen getting a 41 save shutout in his AHL debut. And we wrap up with a prospect round up of where some Sens prospects are in the CHL playoffs.

  1. The injuries have caught up to the Sens finally. Season is still a success. Now it's 8+ years of playoffs or bust. Exciting times

  2. This team is poorly coached and young as hell. The amount of breakaways, 2 on 1’s and 3 on 2’s was so insane. The only goalie that could win with this team might be prime Hasek.

As of late like a goalie friend of mine said ”just make the save bro”…

  3. Ostapchuk is gonna be a great nhler. Maybe not top 6, but hes gonna be a good secondary scorer, hes got wheels, plays physical, has size, and is a dog on the puck. We're gonna love him once he gets up here

  4. Unless there is a coaching change and better systems no goalie will ever succeed here. Gus was bad because he was left out to dry. No argument for that at all. Worst trade and tbh wouldn’t be suprised to see both dj and Pierre fired with new owners

  5. You guys have ruined many childhood memories for folks with all these Lion King Mufasa references. 😭

  6. If not for all the injuries, I think the Sens would be in a WC spot, or at least they would be within a point or 2. If they shore up goaltending they're all but guaranteed a playoff spot next year.

  7. Still disappointed that DJ refuses to play Gauthier. Did Gauthier punch DJ or something? Unfortunately I think they are gonna waste him and not give him any shot.

  8. Do you guys think Talbot is still injured and rushed back? His first start back from injury he was only supposed to be healthy enough to backup. He said in an interview before then something along the lines of "I worked to be in the playoff race just as much as anyone else, and I want to help the guys out". I just don't get how he can be THIS bad. I don't think he is checked out because he is still fighting for his spot/salary next season, whoever that's with.

Also thanks Pillzy for bringing up that Forsberg hasn't had a good season either. Everyone is so quick to jump on Talbot but Forsberg hasn't proven he is capable of being anything more than a #2 capable of giving you #1 minutes (confirmed by Noodles).

    Sorry for the essay lol

  9. So, I have had fun watching the Sens this year….as a new fan. Some frustrations along the way, but overall, I really appreciate the mojo in Ottawa. There is an esprit de corps with this team and community. It very much reminds me of the University of North Dakota and its fan base (albeit on a smaller scale). Regardless, the future is bright. I like Sandy, Chycrun, Zub, Kleven, Cat, Norris (can he stay healthy), Claude, Pinto (want to see him take a step up next year), and the Sens' great captain…Tkachuk. There is a nucleus there, the future looks bright. 👍

  10. Im happy the sens have competed for the playoffs, but once again the Sens do not show up at all still some games.
