What Should The Capitals Do This Offseason?
Ummm… the Caps' top 6 players are either close to or already past their mid 30's. The franchise doubled down on these players with extensions and now they'll have to live thru it for the next 2-4yrs…
Not sure if you picked up on it, but the thing that surprised me most was how audible the Rangers fans were singing their goal song after each goal. That place was a home game for the Rangers today.

Gm Brian McLellan hasn't really made any moves that have helped the team. Yes he signed kempy for the cup run but that team was built by McPhee in 2018. But he has seriously made some terrible moves in the years since the Cup.

As a Bruins fan since Ray Bourque entered the league… everyone single game I've watched the B's play against Ovechkin and Washington were terrifying because it wasn't if, but when, he would bury one for the winner. Alexander Ovechkin —-> An absolute beast (still), and a hockey legend forever.

They got first round picks, they still have movable assets in the offseason and next year, ovi could be moved as well to a contender to at least a first to set the team in motion for a rebuild. Honestly I’m looking forward to using this team first in the next NHL team as trying to rebuild with them will be tons of fun

Inconsistent defensive play, the same thing that's killing the Penguins. Some games, they look really good, most games, they're doing their best impression of a pylon. Sixteen members of their roster have a negative +/- for the season.
If the players are allow to shoot instead of passing all the time they would not be in this position. Those Vet players that were traded are doing amazing on other teams. They are allowed to play instead of help to break records. This is my opinion.

They held onto ovechoken to long. Should have never signed him to that 5yr and left him to die off. The only reason why the caps win a cup is because of the players they traded for. because ovechoken choked in ever major game he's ever played in like the stanly cup and Olympics he's a hack dirty player that's lazy as fuck now.
Ovi has almost always been a one-man show, with goal scoring. In his 18 seasons with the Caps, they have had only one other player score 40 goals in a season(Semin '09-10 with 40g), six times someone had 30 goals(Oshie '16-17 with 33g, Backstrom '09-10 with 33g, Semin '08-09 with 34g, Green '08-09 with 31g, Semin '06-07 with 38g, and Clark '06-07 with 30g). In most seasons, they had zero to four 20 goal scorers, with the exception on the '18-19 when they had six players reach 20 goals.
Of those seven times that someone beside Ovi had 30 to 40 goals, three were from Semin. Their last 30 goal scorer beside Ovi was six seasons ago and the only other 40 goal scorer was 13 season ago.
One of the greats, no doubt, but he continues to support Putin. I can't feel sorry for him.

Kinda had to chuckle when he was debating if Washington was no longer in the playoff picture. They are most definitely out. No need to sugar coat it at this point.
Ovechkin's next cup run will not be as a Washington Capital.
Sorry Johnny. I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm over the moon when Washington gets knocked out of the playoffs or this year where it looks like they won't even make the playoffs. I love it.

Recap on the season. Out of 82 games, we had 2 major players injured at all times for the whole season ( all 82 games). We were missin backstrom and Wilson until December, where we lost Oshie and Milano, and we never got brown or haglin back. Then Carlson got hurt for 30+ games in the most important part of the season. Breaking this down further, we had 2 losses to Columbus, 1 to Anaheim, 1 to San Jose, and 1 to Philly. These games were must wins and if we won them we would be in the playoffs. We beat Boston and Edminton and a few other key teams but lost these important points.
In the off season I think we should seek a new head coach and assistant coach. Lavi isn’t bad imo but the team doesn’t have any spirit left in them after this season and I think we need a change. We need to get rid of mantha, he just isn’t good at all and if kuzy wants to leave I think trading him for a good center is ideal because we need to bring up those power play numbers.
Our goalies are fine, lindgren needs work but they have a really good friendship and dynamic so they need to stay with us
We should try to resign orlov after the playoffs, we need to keep sandin and Carlson and getting one more young but strong defender is a really good idea, I would look at trading Irwin maybe.
For offense we need more youth And energy. This whole season we lacked energy and played tired every game, but the few we played energized we were super good. I think keeping Oshie and finding someone like him with that hyper crazy personality would be a good idea, bring some energy.
As much as I love protas, he is huge and not only do we already have a few huge guys but he doesn’t know how to play with his size, however he did really develop later in the season so I think he will take manthas role very nicely.
I think we should trade sheary for someone younger with a better face off percentage
I think we should keep sonny and smith and really focus on developing them as players and how to regulate positive emotions when loosing.

Honestly I'd like to see him and the franchise cancel the contract, and let him go to a contender team so he can reach that milestone. If I was Ovi, I'd sign to that team for way less than I'm worth too. He's definitely made his bread already.

3 years of good drafting while ovi breaks the record sounds like a great plan? Get like a d-man and a center to help ovi but rebuild…. there are no assets to re-tool and tradeing draftpicks on a team like this makes no sense.
They should trade him for futures and let him take a run on a different contender

Doesn’t break my heart at all to see the likes of Ovi, Kuznetsov and Wilson miss the playoffs. Maybe it’ll help them grow a bit as people and quit with the showboating and carelessness for other player’s safety they each have displayed over their careers.
