I’m on team trade for him this summer. Obviously getting him for free in a year is ideal, but I really love his game and he would probably get a more expensive contract with free agency leverage (even if he were guaranteed to come). I want a Caufield-PLD-Suzuki line so bad.
I’m not sure if he’ll get better while playing in MTL, might even under perform, but I say go for him anyway whether it be by trade or waiting.

If we don’t get him for free next year as an UFA I’d pass. We have so many exciting prospects, I’d rather see them come up through the organization.
PLD overrated and not a great teammate better off without him
I know this is not what the thread is about, but man oh man do I miss Dan Robertson calling the games. Guy is the best in the business if you ask me. So much passion yet not a Homer what do ever.
In my mind the Jets are likely going to want to move him this off-season. If they have an early playoff exit or miss them all together they may want to make some changes. If they don’t move him and say we will move him at the TDL that may be less than ideal if they’re in the playoff race next season. The problem I have with trading for him is we really don’t know what we have in a lot of our prospects and may regret who we trade.

Trade for him. Beck is rumoured to be the main prospect going back, pull the trigger and get him here, then lock him up.
As long as it doesn’t interfere with a top-10 pick in 2024, get him asap. Getting PLD to have him play with Ylönen and Pezzetta wouldn’t be optimal. Habs still need to fill the cupboard with top picks for a year or two.
