I think people have PTSD from Benning, and also how we played with AHL goalies under Bruce to start the season. They saw JB fail at a retool so won’t give this management an honest chance. But their retool attempt has been night and day compared to the last one.
This team has a lot of talent. A couple saavy offseason moves can make them competitive real quick.
Of course the first month of next season will tell a lot, but I’m pretty excited for it already.

Why do we act like signing College UFAs is a new thing? Benning did this all the time lol… Stetcher, Molino, Teves, Michaelis etc. Only really Stetcher panned out, but it seems like people are acting like this is some new thing that we only just started doing

This management has proven to be good at acquiring high value players at a low cost.

Kuzmenko was an absolute home run that I don’t think Allvin gets enough credit for.
There was a Seravalli clip from Canucks central a couple weeks back where he said Allvin deserves full credit for bringing Kuzmenko to Vancouver.
Apparently he called Milstein before he even had the Canucks job to say “If I’m the GM in Vancouver, Kuzmenko is going to be our #1 priority this off-season.”
He went above and beyond to make the player know he was wanted. That seems to be a trend with these guys choosing to be in Vancouver. They all say they felt wanted and like the Canucks understood their game and how they would fit in.
Full props to Patrick Allvin. He’s done a lot of really good things in his short tenure.

Ik it’s semantics, but to me just adding players in free agency isn’t a re-tool. For me a Re-Anything involves pushing your competitive window back a given period of time by trading away older players for picks, prospects, cap space, reclamation projects, younger roster players. We haven’t really done that. We re-signed Miller. We go for it every year. Just adding players in free agency isn’t re-tooling its just adding players to make the team better. You can’t even point at the Bo trade as a re-tooling move if you include Hronek. Hronek and Beau are hardly younger than Bo, and we actually increased our cap commitments with those trades and gave away a first and second in the process. I feel like people are just throwing re-tool around as label for anything that isn’t a re-build but also isn’t building a immediate cup contender.

Is anyone else optimistic about Johannson? He’s trending really well right now, and he’s RD. If he could turn into a top 4 RD for us I think the team is actually in decent shape.

Allvin called the Bo Horvat trade acquiring three first round picks. You could say the same for Kuzmenko, Aman, and Johansson. That’s three first round picks. (Yes, I’m calling Aman a first round pick. He’s the talent you would expect for a late first round pick.) You could equate Dakota Joshua to being a second round pick.

Pedersen got one punched against the Bruins…

Canucks have never had a D-man like Hughes ever before in their entire history so why on earth would you want to get rid of him to try to rebuild from scratch. If this was the old format of finish last get 1st pick then I could see it but thanks to Edmonton we weren’t ever gonna get Bedard as our draft lottery luck has been absolutely horrendous. That being said I can understand how fans were very wary of doing a retool as it has failed so many times in the past here. The new management deserves a lot of credit for having a vision and seeing it actually come to fruition

You sure, seems like all that is talked about is the direction this organization is taking…

Baity headline imo.
The retool is *occuring*
JR said they still have lots of work to do.
It can definitely be talked about more though, and how it all fits in with the new coaching system is something cool to watch.

It’s still early, but I’m liking Hronek’s game and adds more stability to the right side where the Canucks have had a major weakness in recent years.
