After many years, and a long current season… I’m having thoughts about the San Jose Sharks right now — that I’ve never experienced before.

I dont want the sharks to lose ever. Except these last 9 games 😅🙏
Been a fan since 94. Have never rooted for the Sharks to lose. Not once. Until this season. I'm in the exact same spot as you. This year… we're already down at the bottom and the top 3 picks, having a great chance at Bedard in general, is worth it more than any wins.
Good to see you come to terms with the situation. There were basically no other options left than look toward the future.
Well said! Agree wholeheartedly! Life gives you lemons make lemonade! Go EK65
It’s been a rough couple seasons as a Sharks fan, but winning for so long and having the talent we had created this. It’s only natural for a franchise dealing with a salary cap and not having high draft picks for this to happen. The question is how long will this last and how the team and the pipeline of young players develop from here on out turn the team around. Forever optimistic, it stinks losing but that was inevitable.
I really hope EK65 gets to 100 points so we can get more for trading him in the off-season, because in all honesty the sharks have never been the right fit for him as a D-man and he took up way too much of our war chest/ cap space for what he has brought to the sharks.
Totally get what you are saying. This point I think we can all agree we aren't happy with things. Want to see the guys out there playing for their next contract, spot, etc. I think this will help to develop a fan base in San Jose with the Barracuda, because for the most part they played in Worchester. It's very poetic with new exciting talent, a new arena, a new GM (Best of wishes to Doug Wilson), a new Era of Sharks hockey. One that a lot of fans can go and have this homegrown culture of watching them in the minors and seeing them in "The Tank"
Well said, Brodie. My son and I were on a great roadie to Alberta last week and we went to the games in Edmonton and Calgary! Seemed like just about everyone in Edmonton understood why we were rooting for our team to lose.. It was a great atmopshopere in both stadiums (esp. Edmonton and that was a great game) but still quite a surreal experience for us, as we have been Sharks fans for 30 years (I was an original season ticket holder from Day 1 until this year) and my son was lamenting the fact that this was the first time in his life he had ever rooted for one of his teams to lose. As long time A's fans we are also conflicted about rooting for them given everything going on with the horrible ownership and uncertain stadium situation.
100% agree, never felt like this before. Best case scenario Sharks lose the rest of the 9 games of the season and lockup the best draft position . Love my Sharks but we need to lose these games in regulation. Can’t wait till draft day 🦈
I have been to 30 opening day games and was a season ticket holder for the first 24 years. That's what is so hard about attending games down the stretch (and why I don't)…. I don't want to root against them but what is best would be for them to lose out and win the Bedard sweepstakes.
I appreciate the optimism here Brodie, and the shift in focus. I still tune into every game religiously, and over the last month or so, I've noticed myself more and more able to enjoy different aspects of the game despite the constant disappointment of the losses. I'm still not an EK65 fan, but would of course love to see him get 100 points and get the Norris. I'm also really paying attention to the individual effort that players are making game by game in the face of adversity. I'm excited to see Thrun play, and I'm really hoping that this bummer season at least results in another franchise player, like you said. No matter what, I'll always bleed teal!
I was 6 years old during Sharks first season, and win or lose, it was awesome to go to the dozen games i went to. I remember fans chanting Irbe when he did amazing or failed hard. We were not nice. Watched us upset Calgary (amazing experience). It's sad, because I'm getting old and would love to see a stanley in my lifetime, but a fan for life. I'm in for the good and the bad. Just like the Giants (sry Brodie), the 49ers, and the Warriors. I know u are too Brodie, don't tell anyone, but I do root for A's when SF is out. Born in San Mateo, but grew up in Hayward
c’mon boys, let’s show everyone why we call our arena “the tank” !
Tbh I was upset when I saw the are Sharks fans spoiled question posed. We never won a cup so no that makes no sense. It could only apply to the dubs and possibly giants fanbase. Nice to know u get where suffering fans are coming from.
That's the nicest, most generous way possible to say: LOSE, SHARKS, LOSE!!! Grab that #1 pick and make your way back up to the elite!! … I said it, not you… and I've been watching this team since GAME 1… (preseason game match vs. Vancouver at the Cow Palace) GO SHARKS!!! (Starting at the Draft!)
Brodie, I love you commentary and your insights. I think you speak for alot of us actually on this one. I think this season has been more of coming to terms with the glory days being behind us truly. An era the Sharks grew into great success and faded out of. Icons of San Jose Sharks team are gone, but we still find out selves in a situation where we have an Icon in EK65 playing for the best defenceman of the season on a team who is last in the standings. That's a pretty epic achievement and who wouldn't root for an individual underdog story like, returning to a state of play better then preinjury era at this stage in his career. My opinion at this point in the season, is that I want to lose with a smile on my face, and that's exactly it, I want to be impressed with an individual effort with what we have remaining. Give the young guns a shot and let the legends do something legendary.
im routing for the hawks ducks and jackets to win and for us to lose harder than i am for my 2nd favorite team the panthers to get into the playoffs
Delusional fans have been expecting a turn around when it has been clear for years the roster is awful. Embrace being bad, regenerate the youth and prospects, rebuild a culture of winning by moving on from the dead weight (couture, vlasic, dead contracts like Jones and Burns)
I’ve been saying this most of this season. I’m praying for Bedard or a top 3 pick. It’s been the only interesting storyline (other than EK65’s point total).
I have the luxury of not having your job. 😅 That said I'm definitely in a similar place emotionally. It feels weird not being happy after wins like tonight.
I was just talking about this with some fellow Sharks fans…here in Australia! After being lucky enough to be a season ticket holder during the times when the Sharks were electric, these are odd times but I agree that the focus now is on the draft! And even though we had moved to Colorado, we made the trek to see the Sharks for their very first Stanley Cup Final game – was awesome. Speaking of the draft…guess who we have come across here in Oz? Scotty Timmins (Barracuda player – briefly) and Ty Wishart (Sharks First Round draft picking 2006). Both play for the Melbourne Mustangs and it's so nice to have even the smallest connection to the Sharks all the way over here.
That's a very eloquent way of saying you're in favor of tanking. 😅
Brodie, I've found myself struggling with this same feeling at first. Everyone agrees it is suppose to be about the team. It's rare, but in times like this the pursuit of individual goals is good for the team. Tell Brownie to smack you in the back of head for feeling guilty. Lol
