why would you sign him to a big contract when you can pay a young prospect a million dollars or less for three years. i would not trade for him wait till he's a free agent and if he really wants to play in Montreal then he can take a discount

I hope someone in the habs organzation just plays the youtube videos of his hussle in some of those games he gave up in while he plays for a playoff team even if they Jets arent the greatest out there. Whats gonna happen on a bottom feeder, a team a few points out of the playoffs.

If they do not have many injuries next season this young team if healthy will be very close to making the playoffs and if not will be drafting in a place where it would be better to have Dubois but not by giving up any blue chip prospect,Florida’s draft and a young left handed defence man or Dvorak I would do it at this years draft.
Habs won’t be competitive for Atleast 2 years and that’s generous so why would he pay to get him when we can wait to get him for free

interesting trade, really not sure what they'd give up. In a sign and trade, 8 years @ 7.5 would FLD pick do that.

PLD okay but not for a 1st or great prospects. Dvorak + Kapanen + 2nd or something like that. Mtl don't really "absolutely" need him.

Im so tired of this rumour. Dubois is the LAST thing MTL needs. Hes an over-hyped overestimated player that has the potential to sink the entire locker-room.
He has no heart and his work ethic is shady at best.
Id do Struble or Harris + Anderson and habs 2nd this year to give something to Winnipeg but nothing more, id like the habs to have him but he has 1 yeare RFA left then they lose him for nothing and other gm dont want to offer much for him knowing all the rumor with Mtl
The simple fact that MTL didn't get him YET… It shows a level of restraint and focus for the future that not many have in that business. It would "make up" for all of the insane bad luck this season in the mind of many fans, it would be great for value, tickets, etc. It would be good RIGHT NOW for Huges and his guys' jobs, etc. So many stuff. And yet, unless it's for basically nothing (even then), the time isn't right now.
The more patient the Habs are, the more impress I'm going to be, even if they lose him at the end.
The Jets are in a bad situation here. Because of timing and PLD's interest. Both of those things are BAD NEWS for them in terms of a possible return. He is RFA at the end of this season, when his current contract will end. He's going to be a free agent right after that since he said himself in 2022 that he'll "test the market", so 1-2 years contract AT THE MOST after this season, if he's not traded. New contract also 100% means a NO TRADE CLAUSE, and like many players before him, if decided right by his agent, MTL would still be one of the few places where he could be traded (most GMs don't really want players who clearly have a specific team in mind anyway).
Finally, other teams, whether it's at the end of this season or for a trade during a new very short term contract, they know just as well where he wants to play, where he's going to sign long-term. So outside of a TDL type deal at the end of his new short term contract to a playoff team where everybody knows he won't resign at but useful for their playoff push, the Jets leeway, in terms of negotiation bargaining chips, will be non-existent (even less than right now I mean).
In my mind, either the Jets lower their price to an insane/impossible to refuse level this summer, or I really think they won't get anything out of it. Zero.
Anyway, I think it's an educated guess on this situation. We obviously don't have all the facts (not even close). So I might be completely wrong here.
And yeah, if it was their only issue, you know, it happens. But man, they need someone smart and strong willed to kickstart their rebuild FAST. The faster they get to it, the less time their new team will take shape (i.e. instead of making the mistake of waiting for all of their main assets to be gone already). The WORST scenario is a GM on his last leg trying to prolong things by emptying their prospects pool and picks. Doing so generally adds YEARS to a rebuild, can augment the odds of a fail starts, etc.
They don't need him right now. If they get him, it would be free agency. Winnipeg has no leverage if PLD wants to go to Montreal. If they trade him, it would be less than what Kings gave up for Fiala.
There were talks about a trade last summer but Winnipeg wanted Caufield in return

While Dubois might be great, he sure does bring about a lot of power play opportunities for the opposing team, especially when compared to someone like Kyle Connor, and this is something that needs to be considered.

Dubois-Bedard-Dach
Josh Roy is too much to pay IMO. He looks like he could turn into a really solid top 6 forward maybe even a top 2 center. You dont trade prospects like that when theyre home grown.
I would be very disappointed if the habs traded Joshua Roy. We have watched him develop for years.
Depending what they give up! Mtl can be a contender so much sooner with Dubois! Depending what he wants to be paid. I say trade a LD like Harris and a couple picks or something but I hope they don't trade a RD like Logan..

He'll be dealt at the draft, the NHL is a business Montreal will give something to get him for next season, teams do this to keep a good business reputation.
