I would prefer to honor him in another way, kinda like the Jim Robson Broadcast Gondola. I know he played for the Canucks, but he’ll be remembered as a broadcaster first.
nite_awol
dedicate a ketchup in Rogers arena to his name.
Skookummm
He never caught my ear personally, but I have nothing but respect for his amazing accomplishments.
superworking
Was more league wide elite in his role and more of a community leader than some of the other suggestions we’ve seen here.
zeedonutnovel
Once he retires from the job completely they should probably do something. He will still be doing national broadcasts and “other properties” just not a full time gig with Shorty anymore.
TheMemePrince
Lol I don’t think there’s anything close to a realistic chance of that happening but a nice sentiment nonetheless for a beloved Canuck
Imaginary-Ladder-465
A restaurant or concession stand would be good, extra ketchup
Scaught420
Negative he deserves jersey retirement

Create a sub ROH for the broadcast gondola and honour our very best. Robson, Larschied, Garrett and I’ll even argue for Hughson up there too. He was the voice of my childhood and many others through the late 90s early 00s, before he took the CBC job. Shorty will belong in there too when it’s time. Even if it’s a small thing, I think our great commentators of years past deserve the love too.
My suggestion for how to do it, would be to create a graphic right under the railing of all 4 of them side by side with headsets on, looking down at the rink, all calling the game together.
statesnuck
Your average fan probably wouldn’t know him but the fanatics love him
chocoball1972
Even better would be to rename the Costco hot dog stand “Garrett’s”. Then I could say to my friends “let’s meet up at Garrett’s before the game”.
AbbreviatedBVH
Ring of honour, no. John’s footlongs, absolutely yes. They don’t serve footlong hotdogs IIRC and that might be a nice homage IMO.
LiterallyRickTocchet
Change the name of the concourse to the John Garrett Concourse and put ketchup stands everywhere
mindless_sheep_btw
Hopefully they get Leah Hextall to take over for him, she’s the best.
MinithetinyguyDa18th
I think a tribute night would be sufficient but honoring him would certainly be acceptable
UncleSnipeDaddy
they should put his headset up in the rafters
Batsinvic888
Maybe not ring of honour, but put name the section around the broadcast area after him. Or something similar.
mvp45
I’m from Winnipeg and our bombers have our press box named and a spot in the ring of honour for Bob Irving. That being said he was the voice of the bombers for 40 years and is in the Canadian football hall of fame. So it’s not outlandish to suggest this for John Garrett
NubCak1
You get a ring and you get a ring and you get a ring, everyone gets one.
What makes it special then?
gbsguitarboy
I would love a cheech themed restaurant in the concourse

Why not throw my dog up there too he’s been a fan his whole life!

Will miss this guy

As far as I can tell the requirements for the ring of honour is former players who have “made a lasting impact on the franchise.”
Can’t think of many other players who have had more of a lasting impact, to be honest. 31 to the ROH!
HalcyonReadersDigest
I like Garrett. He’s funny. He’s quirky.
But posts like this remind me that the average age on the sub is young as fuck.

Larscheid would have to go ahead of him
Maybe posthumous
