  1. Anyone else think the sharks would have gotten more from the leafs? Feel like the sharks played way too much hard ball and then teams like the leafs went elsewhere.

  2. Steve, as a Sharks fan, I just have one question….. Can you ask Hat Guy what is the correct alcohol to chug over the next couple years?

  3. As a Devils fan, as much as I wanted Timo Meier on the team, I really didn't want to see either Mercer or Nemec moved in order to acquire him.

The fact that we were competing for his services with the Hurricanes, Golden Knights and the late-entry Blues only made the last several weeks even more excruciating.

I love this trade. I'll love it even more if Tom Fitzgerald is able to get Timo's signature on an extension and if we're able to keep Jesper Bratt long-term as well.

  4. NJD can and will resign Meier will be resigned. Tatar, Haula, Severson and Blackwood will have to go, but they've got the prospects to make it up, and they keep they're core. They'll be able resign Bratt and Meier. The future is bright for the Devils

  5. Great trade by Jersey, stupid trade for Tampa. Cal Foote and 5 picks for a goon. That is more than what Devils gave up for a sure fire top 3 forward in Meier.

  6. So what happens in a scenario where the Lightning finish bottom 10 in the league in 2024? (I know this is very VERY unlikely).

The Blackhawks have the lightning's 1st round pick in 2024, but it is top 10 protected. If the lightning pick in the top 10 in 2024 then the pick is supposed to move to an unprotected 2025 pick (I thought?). How does that work now with the predators having that 2025 pick?

  7. This has been one of the most active trade deadline seasons I can remember in a long time. Maybe I am wrong, but it just seems that way.

  8. To play devils advocate as a sharks fan. It's in the Sharks interest to have not gotten Mercer in this trade. If they are going to do even a partial rebuild, NJ keeping mercer and anyone else people thought they would have to trade, gives a higher probability of that conditional draft pick to be a first. So although it's not as flashy up front, if they can draft well ((yes I know magic beans)), this is one of those trades that no one will really know if it was s fleecing or not for several more years.

  9. Sharks fan since their just before their first ever playoff appearance here. I'm pretty underwhelmed with the return package for Meier. I don't like seeing such a high value guy get moved, but a tear down is needed to get this organization where it needs to be with whatever re-blank adjective you choose to use here. Meier is the guy you move to get an A+ level prospect back. You get a piece back that can change the organization going forward. Instead we got magic beans, conditional magic beans, a project with some decent upside (but is still a project), a guy who might be playable at the NHL level, and a cap guy. I get the desire to try and move out some guys that don't have a future with the organization and bring in some guys that probably do, but I don't feel this was anything close to a great trade for Grier.

It seemed from his comments last night that there was no appetite to actually sign Meier after this season and so his comments a month or two ago about extending Meier was a bluff, and he got called on it. Then got out played by a more experienced GM with the game of chicken in demanding better value coming to San Jose. But best case scenario is it gets close to even in 4-6 years down the road. Today though, absolute landslide by Jersey. The franchise with one of the best prospect pools in the league got away with trading magic beans and their 5th best prospect for the HIGHEST IN DEMAND guy at the deadline.

  10. With the devils trading Mukhamadullin: He didn't have much of a chance to make the Devils roster, I mean- look at their D prospects. They'll have Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec full time quite soon, they've got more D prospects left, and they have Marino, Hamilton, and Siegenthaler locked up long term. I don't see it as any kind of loss for NJ, really.

  11. As a lightning fan I honestly don’t think that we over l payed. He’s an RFA after this season and we are a cup contender so he will likely want to re sign, plus we payed cal Foote so much money almost half the price if this guy who’s a bit better.

  12. It seems like all these big names end up going for Mark Donk and a bucket of maybes, I think valuation is just way off from a fans pov. I can say my house is worth 10 million dollars all I want, but if no one pays that then no its not.

  13. We need this beautiful horrible trade tree. I have no suggestion on where to start

  14. Normally the buying club gets the superstar, but it looks like Vancouver got the best player in their deal with Islanders. What a genius trade for them.

  15. NJ needs to sign him LT. They'll have 36 million in cap space. Him and Bratt. STEVE YOU FORGOT SJ RETAINS 50% I think both teams won in a way. Without Zetterlund I'd say SJ got fleeced

  16. "having palat in your bottom 6 is a huge luxury" nah he fuckin stinks on the devils ngl

  17. Like that was many times before, Steve knows nothing but very loudly told stories. Hey, Steve, breaking news, you are bad again.

  18. TBH Fabian Zetterlund has the potantial to be mroe then 20 points in 5 games he can sakte win board battles has a rocket of a shot and hes built like a tank at 5'11 and 220lbs

  19. Without an extension there was only so much the Sharks were going to get. I got the impression that was more on Timo than on Grier being unwilling to let teams talk to him but idk.

  20. The Devils did give up a roster player, and two players who have seen NHL time on ice this season, but nobody who played in Saturday night's 7-0 win against Philadelphia got traded.

I agree with the assertion that it's a lot – and Harrington's already gone to Anaheim on waivers – but it's not the Big Stuff. Muk was at best the Devils' #3 D prospect (and was the third first-round pick the Devils made in that draft), and he could hit it big with the Sharks (and I hope he does), but he was a player New Jersey could afford to give up in this deal. I hope all four players that San Jose got do fabulously there, but they were still all pieces New Jersey could afford without the cupboard being anything close to bare.

  21. Big fan of the show.
As a NJ Devils STH, thank you very much in breaking down the details of this trade. I now have a better understanding of the trade.
    Continued success on your show.
