Watch as Colorado Avalanche forward Lars Eller scores bizarrely, jamming the puck home on Ottawa Senators goaltender Mads Sogaard appears to stop playing after thinking he froze the puck, but the whistle was never blown.

Absolutely love Eller.. but how did they not blow the whistle dude covered the puck with the player right next to him ?
What are the refs doing?
Eller teammate even stopped playing the ref is a true id*ot
This play reminds me of group of people eyeing the last crab leg at the buffet line with every one being too polite to take it. Ellers was like Aunt Karen who swoops in and shamelessly puts it on her plate because she has no class.
When was this game?
The root cause is that refs did not yell off or wave off icing like they normally do hence the confusion.
THAT is a Dang IT, on many levels
So I was watching the intermission interview with Lars Ehler and he said the linesman waived off the icing and he just followed the play. I am not sure why the ref didn't shut it down. The only thing I can come up with is that he was on the back side and couldn't see if it was covered but that is an incredibly weak theory. I will say though that these guys have been told from the first time they played to play to the whistle. Why didn't the goalie keep it covered? It doesn't matter what he thinks should happen. Pick the puck up if need be but don't uncover it without a whistle or you get scored on. "see example above"
"Avalanche's Lars Eller Scores Bizarre Goal After NHL Referee Fails To Do Job And Blow The Play Dead."
Would be a more accurate title. What was the over/under on this game?
1. Pick was covered
2. Icing
the refs this season man
and of course this is the game winning goal
all that just for an early whistle in the dying seconds… just keep it consistent PLEASE
You play to the echo of the whistle, boys. You don't like it? You can get new goalie who understands that.
Can't decide what's more of a Dang-It
Refs calling off the icing
Refs not blowing it dead
Sens not playing till the whistle
somebody call steve dangle. we take those though lol
Weird goal, yes. But for anyone who didn't watch the game, yet has a strong opinion here, there were no less than 3 makeup calls that the refs gifted the Sens and did the Sens make a goal out of it? You bet they didn't.
THE Refs are just getting ready for the playoffs , Stay Tuned … for more of WTF…………………. It should have been icing .. it was 'not' waved off..WOW
2pts
I think there should've been a whistle, but I also think since there wasn't the goalie should've kept it covered
No ice? No whistle? Such a bs goal, then ends up being game winner, keep up the good job stripes
This is going on Dang-its
Goalie should’ve just picked up the puck idk why he’d just leave it on the line without a whistle
This was all on who officiated the game. Probabmy would have been blown down faster by 80% of refs
GOAL OF THE YEAR
thats awful bro lmao
Need a special Thursday night edition of Steve’s Dang-Its for this play.😮
Eller coming up clutch but not in the way you expect😂
3 Dang its on one play?
Goalies fault for not keeping it covered
No whistle. It was reviewed. Deal with it.
Bruins lost an overtime game when an icing call was waived off for reasons they refused to explain.
Remember all those goals that were called back because refs had intent to blow the whistle even though it was way too early?? Wtf happened to that here?? Not even just this game for Ottawa but for the whole nhl and every team something needs to be done about this
If you're a goaltender, tend the goal until you hear a whistle!
The play should've been blown dead the very second that Eller started hacking at the goalie's skate. I have no idea why he wasn't given a minor for goaltender interference. But no, in Bettman's Rules we award a goal going the wrong way. Surprise me.
Bad referee
Play 👏 To 👏 The 👏 Whistle 👏
-should have been an icing
-should have been blown dead
-the puck was covered for 3 whole seconds
all of this just for the refs to later call an extremely early whistle in the dying seconds of the third. Add onto that phantom calls, divings, and in general poor game management. Absolutely abysmal officiating tonight.
What is this title he did freeze the puck idiots these refs gotta get the boot, will go down as the worst officiated game of all time for me

People forget – this is not you local hockey rink, this is a STADIUM. It is not ALWAYS clear that a whistle was blown/not blown.
STILL, goalie has to – MUST – assume that all refs SUCK ALL THE TIME. I did just one month into my first year of Mite hockey. Best lesson that I ever taught myself!!
Very NHL.
#nhlconsistency
What a snipe.
You'd figure, that these "professionals" would continue to keep playing until they hear the distinctive sound of the whistle? That is why the officials have them, a high-pitched sound to get their attention to stop the play.
Otherwise, keep playing boys!
The icing is negated 1.) The colorado guy tried to play puck but got knocked down that negates icing. 2.) The puck went into crease and goalie touched the puck also negates icing. 3.) The goalie never covered the puck and ref could still see the puck therefore no whistle. 4.) Always play through whistle. This is a legitimate goal the refs did their job. People really need to learn the rules of hockey.
The fact the crowd still thought it was supposed to be icing is hilarious. It was waived off before it crossed the blue line
Play to the whistle. Can't blame refs here
Bunch of crying going on here by Sens fans. Pretty simple the icing was waived off, and the whistle wasn't blown. The puck was sitting there and the Aves scored. Sens players are to blame not the officials.
Dude the ref had his whistle up to his mouth for like 3 years, what a joke.
