Despite the broadcaster's confident assertion, I think it's far from certain that MacKinnon "missed his shot" and was "trying to go top shelf". I've watched it several times.
Unbelievable job boys-to hold that team to 19 shots on home ice-in an OT game-is PHENOMENAL process. Avs deserved to win in regulation…AND in OT…but got it done in the gimicky,coin flip,shootout. I wouldve been ecstatic with 1 point before the game,but Samsonov actually kinda stole 1 point for Toronto.
Go up 3pts on WPG-& we have 2 games in hand,I believe…within 5pts of Dallas(with 2 games in hand),& within 2pts of Minny as we speak-with 3 games in hand on them. Avs have % wise-1 of the easiest schedules in the nhl-tonight was BY FAR-our toughest remaining game.
But Leaf fans,I wouldnt be upset if I was a Toronto fan. Your process wasnt great,but getting 1 pt vs the defending champs isnt a bad OT/SO loss. And I know Oreilly is out-thats a big loss. But Avs have had the worst injuries in nhl,over the balance of the season. This is almost as close to healthy,as weve been all season,but we still have 5 key members of last yrs Cup run out. Landeskog,Leckonen,Josh Manson,Eric Johnson,& Daren Helm.
Alot of hockey to be played,& injuries/getting guys back-can change all this instantly,but right now/today-if ya stuck a gun to my head for a Finals prediction-Id say Colorado-Toronto would be my pick-if both are reasonably healthy. I think there are a few teams in the east-more talented than us on paper-even if we are healthy. Toronto,Boston,TB & NYR…you could argue Carolina,& NJ-though I wouldnt. Pacioretty was a huge loss for Carolina,& they are the only East contender that didnt do much at the deadline. NJ,I think has a bright future,& wont be an easy out. But they are too young/inexperienced,& not great on the back end. Young teams dont go far in the nhl playoffs-they have to lose 1st usually.
Point is,I wouldnt like my Avs chances in the east. But if healthy-I still think we are the best in the west-which is full of a lot of good teams,but nobody scary great like the east. I think theres a good chance these teams meet again,& Id favor Toronto if fully healthy. But I do think my Avs are the only western team that would have a punchers shot to upset the east champs-if healthy. With the experience of being deffending champs,& the high end talent we have-I still think we are the only west team that could win the cup realistically. But i wouldnt favor us over Boston,Toronto,TB or NYR…Carolina,& NJ-I would favor us if healthy.
I feel like shootouts are sort of a lame way to win… but I'll take it! Good game Leafs–you had pressure out the whole time. Georgiev coming up strong for CO tonight! Samsonov played well too, actually.

Toronto looked pretty solid with their play. It seems like the only thing that happened last night was they just lost.
As a Tampa fan as well, this year's Leafs are making me REALLY nervous. Even their playoff track record since 2004 might be irrelevant this year. All they probably have to do is get past my Lightning Bolts.
