Blackouts. 100%. I can take a day off, just not 40.

  2. Chumpo56

Blackouts. I couldn’t care less about the schedule.

What’s the point in fixing the schedule if we still can’t watch the games anyway.

  3. QAPetePrime

Bettman is the worst. 30 years of the worst sports league management ever.

  4. Sneacler67

Why would anyone care about the schedule? Many teams also share arenas with NBA teams and concerts. The schedule is what it is

  5. JustSixTrees

Schedule can be fucking flawless but if it’s blacked out who gives a shit

  6. NOOTBAARTOOTBLAN

They used to do scheduling by hand, no computers. Can you imagine?

  7. Steakholder_

Blackouts. The schedule is incredibly complicated, has to accommodate external factors, and is impossible to balance perfectly. Blackouts on the other hand are the league’s fault and can be eradicated very easily if Bettman wants.

  8. As someone who was trying to get into the sport, blackouts made me stop even trying.

  9. Camulius73

The scheduling has been terrible all year. I would absolutely buy a package to watch if games weren’t blacked out.

    So… both?

  10. Piccolo_11

12 games in one night is great. Blackouts are dated

  11. Toxicwolf211

New hockey fan here, could someone explain to me what a blackout is?

  12. subway576

Gary Bettman is a sports commissioner. You’re not supposed to like the guy because he’s the one who has to be the face for when bad things happen or when people disagree.

Given the financial situations of every NHL team now vs 10 years ago, and for how successful the two expansions have went, I wouldn’t be surprised if the NHL and the NHLPA would make him immortal if they could

  13. You highlighted the wrong problem with the schedule. Personally, I’d rather they stagger games a bit more by half an hour. Sometimes 7 games start at 7 and then none start at 7:30. Ultimately blackouts are worse anyway

  14. Flanny709

Haha Blackouts are so bad they must be worse. But this is funny.

  15. Blackouts….wasn’t espn+ supposed to give us more exposure to watch any game anytime? I only have one cable box in my apartment and this mainly applies to west coast games, I cant even watch my own team on espn+ in my bedroom at 11pm on a weeknight bc it’s blacked out. It’s crap

  16. Numbnuts007

The hockey guy is going to have a huge couple of boards for the review for that day.

  17. RobbieRum

    What’s worse? Being a flyers fan 🫠🫠☹️

March 13: TONS of college basketball conference championships.
    March 14: No basketball
    March 15: NCAA Tourney starts.

The NHL has been shit all year with this and I’m so tired of it. Nearly every second day can typically be expected to have 1-3 games, with the following day having 9-14. Doesn’t matter what day of the week it is outside of Saturday night (for Canadians anyway). What kind of garbage-ass logic decides to have 2-3 games in a day on weekends…

  20. austfraust

Blackouts. I have only been able to keep up on my Sabres and other teams via highlights on YouTube. Which is a damn shame because this year has been a really fun one imo

  21. a schedule is really hard to make

    blackout is not

  22. VanillaIce315

You get 82 games a year minimum regardless of how the schedule is made.

Blackouts make me want to gather everyone responsible, lock them in a building, and rain down hellfire from a Blackhawk.

  23. canadaloon

    BLACKOUTS !!

And send Yotes to Quebec for fuck sake

  24. Flex1855

The schedule is crazy they never play a lot of games on big nights, but I guess they know they’re not competition

  25. Sjdillon10

Rangers play the pens 3 times this week. We played our last game vs the isles months ago. We had a 4 game gap followed by a double header more than once this year. For the rangers, it may be our most poorly set schedule I’ve ever seen in my time watching

  26. ESPN+ never seems to have Golden Knights games, even when I’m in Vegas or Reno

  27. intelpentium400

The only solution to TV blackouts is to pirate the games

  28. Lucifers_Goldfish

Both. Blackouts are bullshit. Speaking for my own team but the number of back-to-backs we’ve had is absolutely mind boggling.

  29. MustardSpaghetti

What is the NHLs reasoning behind blackouts? Because it’s so stupid

  30. CdnRageBear

The only good thing that’s come out of Rogers owning literally everything in Canada is that I never have to worry about Blackouts for Leaf games.

  31. Rockterrace

Light Mondays and Wednesdays with a busy Tuesday Thursday has kind of been the norm for a long long time hasn’t it? The NHL is basically a Tues/Thurs/Sat league with a few games on each of the other four nights sprinkled in.

  32. bfrankiehankie

Doesn’t matter how many games there are if you can’t watch them

  33. potbellyjoe

Fuck blackouts. You’re not the NFL, you can’t grow the sport by shutting the locals out. The Wirtzes nearly killed a franchise doing that.

  34. LengthGlad8009

Lightning vs Jets game blacked out in Mobile, AL! Wtf

  35. SirBulbasaur13

Surely they have a legitimate reason for scheduling the season like this right?

    I mean, right??

  36. Blackouts. If there weren’t shitty blackouts I could watch 12 games in a day and that would be siccckkkk
