I mean, yes, the defense hasn’t played up to standard the last few weeks, but this picture isn’t that. This is one of two goals that Vasy should have stopped (and he normally does).

It’s been a bit of a defensive and goaltending break down.
It’s not like they have played more games than any other team the last 3+ years.
The regular season is a grind. And going to 3 SCFs in a row makes the off-season very very short.
Last night the Bolts outplayed VGN in every aspect of the game. They just came up short. Could have easily been 6-3 Bolts if Quick hadn’t played way above his normal level

I mean, gotta squeeze that one harder regardless. That’s not a Vasy thing to do with these tricklers.
Three_Froggy_Problem
I don’t think this is a good representation of what’s been wrong with us.
There’s been a serious lack of energy from the guys since the break. Lazy passes, bad turn-overs, and a complete lack of defense in a lot of situations have led to us getting absolutely creamed on multiple occasions.
But last night, we played really well. There were mistakes, sure, but overall I thought even our defense was looking a lot better than it has of late. This goal right here was one that Vasy should’ve had, and it’s really not indicative of how the team was playing at the time. Many times in the past, Vasy has saved this team when they were playing like shit, but this time I think it was Vasy who wasn’t at 100%.
Skeeter5299
Now if Vasy could just step it up and make the saves he’s being paid to make. Way too many easy ones getting past him the past few weeks.
long--winded
sadly this only describes vasy not making a save he should have
clem82
Actually the defense played great. This was a normal chance that the hand off was poor but the forward should’ve challenged the shot

My boys were tired in that OT. They couldn’t skate

Honestly Vasy has let in some soft goals this year especially his blocker. He also has had some amazing saves. He has dominated the league the past 5 years. He is burned out as he should since he is the main reason we have a better chance of winning most games due to his performances. We have taken too much advantage of him and dude needs serious rest. But also can’t rely on Moose as a main player for the rest of this season. He gives up 3 or 4 a game and can easily get outplayed where he looks like a beer league goalie. Im just happy he has winning season as out back up

It was so cool watching Vasy scoring two goals on the Knights in the last 2 minutes to tie the game and get us a point! Oh wait, no he didn’t do that…

Yall just have to trust in Cooper here.
I GUARANTEE there are things happening that we don’t know. Maybe he wants to test passing, so he says “Lets win the game with less than 20 shots on goal” and that’s what the guys are trying to do. Or “Let’s try to crash the blue line every 3rd faceoff”
Or “Lets not bring out the top line in the 3rd period to see if the other guys can get it done” as a TESTING TOOL.
This is the time of the year to do that, and perfect the lines, the strategies, etc. Practice only gets you so far so some of the testing happens LIVE during the game – and it’s all done so when we face a certain type of team or situation in the playoffs we know the best plays and they’re practiced.
The wins here on out don’t matter as much and we’re in a great position where we really likely know who our opponent is going to be – and since they took us to game 7 last season we want to be even BETTER prepared.
kekerosbergizgod
Dude, team defense has been there in the last two games. Not perfect but everyone’s trying to do their share and forwards are defending and backchecking as they should.
That image has nothing to do with defense. It was a fluke shot in OT.
bullskull
The best skaters for Vegas in OT were wearing black and white stripes.
Did you catch Hagel about to clear out the puck and get a much needed 3×3 change and get blatantly tripped? No? Neither did the refs. We only got one point in this game but that was the biggest team effort I’ve seen from us all year.
Defense has been suspect for the past 2 months, this game was a not an example of that. They played better than I’ve seen in a while as a unit
RadTek88
Y’all are aware that between the last 3 deep Cup runs, the Lightning have played almost an entire season more than anyone else, right? And Vasy was on the ice for every minute of it? It’s almost as if…he’s human and not a robot.

Pretty sure the picture your looking for is the missed trip right before this bs pic

Last night he got outplayed. 3 goals in 11 shots? Even the great have bad nights.
OGHamToast
2nd goal doesn’t happen if Sergy doesn’t give up a turnover as the last man right at the blue line. 2nd goal STILL doesn’t happen if Vasy doesn’t let in a softie. No doubt he has had some less than stellar games lately, but let’s not look at him as the sole cause, here.
Glad the boys rallied in the O-zone to get the OT point, they played hard. Those SHG against and turnovers are killing us. If we don’t straighten those up then I don’t care how good a goalie is or isn’t, we are not a winning team.
I honestly think if that 2nd goal hadn’t gone in the boys win that game.

Canes fan here (please don’t downvote). I saw a tired team play on Sunday. I thought Cooper sitting Stamkos Point Kucherov was harsh and would send a message. Expected more fight from the 3x EC champs. Much as the Canes win the regular season, I think Tampa wins the postseason.

The defense has not been good. Neither has Vasilevskiy.
