The Chirp | Jack Hughes & Dave Lowry

Daren is joined by Jack Hughes (1:30) and Dave Lowry (22:20). Hughes riffs on his unique goal celebrations, his favorite books, top Netflix shows and the reasons he believes the Devils are building toward something special. He shares a difficult conversation he had to have with his roommate Ty Smith and how he plans to mentor his brother Luke Hughes when he gets to the NHL. Lowry talks about taking over for Paul Maurice in Winnipeg and the shock he felt when he found out that Maurice was resigning. What’s it like coaching his son at the NHL level? and how does his wife feel about the situation? Lowry is excited about how the Jets are coming together and raves about the skills of Kyle Connor.

  1. Dave Lowry used to live in a neighborhood near mine in Chesterfield, Mo in the early 90s. Garth Butcher lived in the same neighborhood. When we were like 11 years old, we actually went to their house and rang their doorbell to see if they'd sign sticks and jerseys for us – which they did, and was awesome. Lowry, you could tell was agitated/preoccupied by something and he asks us if we've seen a teenager speeding dangerously through the neighborhood, but we hadn't. On our way to Butcher's house, we then see Lowry in a red sports car and he was chasing after someone, lol. I remember thinking "he lives like he plays" lol

  2. Chemistry is immediate. That’s why it’s referred to that way. People who talk about ‘developing’ chemistry are barking up the wrong tree.
