This Could be HISTORICALLY Bad

The San Jose Sharks could end up with not only the worst home record in the NHL, but the worst home record in modern league history. They’re just 6-18-8, not even winning 20% of their games. Additionally, they have seen attendance plunge to the 2nd worst in the NHL. Blown multi-goal leads, a hothead of a head coach, and the friendliest arena for visiting teams…have the San Jose Sharks hit rock bottom?

  1. Remember, even if the Sharks finish dead last, they still have only a 25% chance at Bedard.
Growing up in San Jose, getting a pro sports franchise was huge at the time. The fabled 1994 first time in the post-season against Detroit was insane. Watch parties at the Tank for the away games with over a thousand raucous fans, SJ firetrucks across the street with teal fins on top. I was lucky enough to go to game 6 that year with Irbe "like wall" winning to take it to the historic game 7 in Detroit.
Since then, the only thing consistent about the Sharks was their inconsistency. They could beat the top of the league, and then lose ugly to a bottom team…

  2. I do feel for you as a Sharks fan this year. I have been a Columbus fan for literally as long as they've been around, and even though its been a really tough season, at least I feel like we have a ton of young prospects and a legitimate chance to be a consistent playoff contender for the next 5-10 years. The young players on the San Jose squad just dont seem like they are going to be the type of players Johnson and Marchenko have the potential to be for CBJ. Hope both teams are in the Bedard/Fantili coin flip this year, at least gives some hope

  3. All SJS need to do is give 60 minutes of effort every game. That is it. I stopped watching SJS when they stopped putting in effort. I would gladly watch SJS lose most games as long as they put in effort and kept the games interesting. When the SJS stand around puck watching and looking uninterested, I then loose interest. I see it as the whole help me help you dichotomy. Give me effort and I will put in effort to support you, win or lose . Call me a fair weather fan I couldn't care less.

The SJS won't be good in 3 years. It will take 5 to 10 years if we are lucky. So grow some balls and say the forbidden word rebuild and nuke the team. Our vets deserve a cup and they won't get one in SJS. This goes back to the help me help you dichotomy. They help SJS with cap space and the ability to shorten the length of the rebuild by waiving their NMC and they get traded to strong teams that are making a run for the cup. Retain salary if needed, but no buyouts.

And by no means is this the low point for the SJS. My guess is 2 – 5 more years of getting worse minimum. How you ask? Continue to get mediocre returns for current assets. Sign overpriced free agents or give contract extensions with NMC. Draft horribly with the late 1st rd picks as is SJS tradition and watch the future potential fade away into nothing. Or simply have our current NMC's not waive their rights and clog the arteries of the teams salary cap for the next 5 years.

  4. this is rock bottom, doug wilson was great for a long time and then completely ruined it. He made 4 horrible moves within a year(vlassic extension, jones extension, Ek65 trade, EK65 extension), he went from one of the best GM's to THE worst. Even if we luck out with bedard, we're likely 3+ years away from legit competition.

  5. Im all for them to keep playing like crap for the next 3 seasons. by that time those bloated contracts are close to falling off… And maybe the likes of Vlasic will retiree. Rack up 4 years of top 5 picks. By the time these contracts begin to fall off, hopefully the high picks will be gelling. Dont spend any money on any big to mid level FAs in that time.

  6. The sharks made some big mistakes in recent years. The re-signing of Erik Karlsson was a big one, not only there is an untradeable 11.5mil contract of an aging Player, but the extra draft-pick that went to ottawa is: TIM STÜTZLE!!! Extending Hertl last year another mayor blooper instead of trading him when he had real value, now they have another aging Player on a big&untradeable contract 🙄🙄 . . . Self-inflicted wounds that the sharks will keep paying for for years, even if they get Bedard

  7. Trying to think of ways to get butts in seats? Does the Sharks promotion team do a good job with attractions? It may sound corny but should they start treating it like minor league sports with fun themes? 🤔

  8. Should of never got rid of Pavs and Kane are best producers smh They need to be upfront with Couture and ask him to leave the way they did Pavs. I see more sharks fans that moved to TX at that Dallas vs SJ games now then i see at the tank lol lots of people moved away from the expensive bay during covid. I got hope for Grier tho the prospects and picks hes getting is all we can do.

  9. I watched every shark game this year , they suck and I don't think they will be good for a loooong time. Sad

  10. Whoever decided to trade Pavelski should go down as the person who ruined the sharks . I haven't looked up the stats but I bet EVERYTHING from attendance , wins ….. everything declined after trading Pavelski which is the worst trade in sharks history .

  11. It's the dark ages. Teams go through this all the time. I'm one to say we aren't tanking we are reloading. That building will be rocking again sooner than later. Sharks fans if you read this please don't give up on the team.

  12. Yikes, it doesn't't sound very good. I imagine if they do get Bedard that would increase attendance and generate interest again. If this isn't the worst would they ever relocate, maybe to San Francisco or elsewhere?

  13. as a sharks fan from maine it cant get any better my local team is having the best season possibly ever and the sharks are one a one way train to my favorite prospect since he played for west van connor bedard. seeing one of my top 5 players in the nhl timo meier getting traded to a team i dont love is hard tho wouldve loved to see him in vegas

  14. Couldn’t be more embarrassing than my Sens blowing a 3-1 lead against the Blackhawks to lose in OT then getting shoutout 5-0 to those same Blackhawks after they traded Pat Kane. 🤦‍♂️

  15. At least this year we get to see if Karlsson gets 100 points . That's one bright spot on a depressing shark year ☺️

  16. As somebody who just became a fan of hockey last year, and went to there first sharks game this year. I wouldn’t really be shocked if the Sharks move into the Chase center in SF. I really feel like if the team continues to play this way and have zero future like they do now, it will happen. It really doesn’t seem that the city cares at all for the sharks

  17. Cow Palace man, it was far worse (from at least what I’m told). I see no reason the ship couldn’t be turned around 2025, once contracts start expiring and Eklund/Bordeleau/Bedard continue to progress
