Iām sure Lou is clandestinely working on an extension with Newport. Newport represents 5 NY Islanders playing on the team right now. Yeah, I wouldnāt be surprised if heās signed an extension before next Mondayās game against Philadelphia.
I've been dreading the news that our captain was traded and I hate seeing him go. Islander fans are going to love Bo. Having said that, given all of the factors at play, I think the Canucks got more than what I was expecting them to get. The mistake wasn't the particulars of this trade, they were the events over the last couple of years that lead to this conclusion. Although the Islanders got the best player (so far) in this trade, I can't help but think it was the wrong direction for a team that has the weakest prospect pool in the league. The only thing that will change my mind about that will be if the Islanders win the Cup over the next couple of years. Anything short of that and Lou should be thrown out the door with extreme prejudice for sacrificing the future on a team that is currently out of a playoff spot.
I really don't know anything about the Islander players, but on the surface it sure seems like a poopoo return for Bo.
But, it's desperate times, desperate measures in the Canucks camp, so here we are.
Best of luck to Bo, and I hope our new incomers end up being a good surprise on the roster.

So having 2 picks in the top 20 is not a win for Canucks, it allows them to use the most likely top 5 pick on another player at C position and the aisles pick on a defender.

I'm thankful for the trade. And I do believe the Canucks came up a bit short on the return. A more solid 2nd player was needed. I'm not liking, Rattu a lot. But hey, it has finally started.
I think Vancouver actually won this. TBD if the Islanders make the playoffs, they have 3 teams to hop, but Vancouver literally turned nothing into something here. They got a 1st and a prospect and a bottom 9 forward. That's decent for a player you were going to literally lose for nothing because of the salary cap.

Now that Bo resigned this is definitely a win for the Isles.
Beau is going to go off, he desperately needed a change of scenery. Fast skill type guy on a grind it out kind of team, he was getting held back.
RƤty Iām unsure of. His SHL and AHL play was very promising. He didnāt look bad in the few NHL games he played, but I remember expecting a lot more from him. I think heāll grow into a number two center behind Petterson, though it may take some time.
That said, Isles fans have been waiting for this kind of āsell futures for a goal scorerā trade for an eternity. Canāt complain, especially since Bo has shown that he can score AND play a 200 foot game. I know his defensive game hasnāt been as good this year, but being an Islander will improve that, I think. Horvatās an awesome fit with the Isles.
Lou, of course, signed sealed and delivered Horvat for 8 years while you were in the air
