Bubble 1.0: The 2020 playoffs and the error in thinking the team was closer than they actually were.
Bubble 2.0: The 2022 Boudreau bump end of season and thinking the team was closer than they actually were.
Bubble 3.0: The 2023 Tocchet bump end of season and thinking the team is closer than they actually are.
Please everyone. Lets not lie to ourselves any longer.
Edit: guys…its obvious that Elite Goaltending makes up half the success of any kind of “bump”, that wasnt the point of my comment. The focus of my comment was more about not buying in to what the org is obviously trying to sell: new season ticket renewals.
They didn’t drag Boudreau through that 10 game gauntlet before firing him for random reasons…They did it to give Tocchet the best chance at a bump with a really weak schedule so they could try and sell us fans on tickets for next season.
MaxHardwood
It was probably just too difficult to blow up the roster mid-season. Most tanking teams get things started before the season even begins, except for the Blue Jackets.
Tanking is typically a plan as well. The Canucks organization has been gunning for a playoff berth, and evidently they’re not going to let this season alter their course for next season.

What fucking market correction?
These bozos starting to drink their own koolaid.
UncommonHouseSpider
We all knew this team was too good to truly tank, and frankly, any org that does precisely that is pretty pathetic in my mind. Players want to win and are going to try to do so, it is inherent in their DNA. We’re not going to sell on Petey, Hughes or Demmer, so we were never going to truly tank and rebuild. It was foolish to think this would be the outcome. We kind of did tank to get Petey and Hughes, but they are so good the team tried hard to build around them and take advantage of their ELCs as everyone always likes to shout about. It didn’t work, and now we are trying to build around them with better players that are more in line with building some long term success rather than short term gains. Next year will be different, but will we be better? No one knows until the season starts and some games get played. No one, I repeat, No One, had the Kraken making the playoffs at the start of the year, so how’s that for your prediction fantasies?!
MaverickGH
The team will be a middling playoff team until Hughes, Demko and Petey are gone. Only then they might consider the real rebuild they should’ve done way back when 22 and 33 retired. So basically, wait another 10 years and don’t listen to the garbage Aquilini and management say. They don’t want the team to great, they want the team to be just good enough to make round 1 every year and get bounced.
sMc-cMs
The team had clear choices to secure this tank and completely ignored them.
1. Keep Martin up instead of sending him to Abbotsford. It was clear that he was the weaker goalie and would have secured some losses.
2. Make it really clear to Tocchet that he shouldn’t be playing Hughes and Petey for nearly 30 minutes a night. We know that they’re good, we need to see if other players can play.
3. Accept the trade for Miller for the draft picks.
4. Don’t trade Stillman, he was one of our greatest tank commanders. If you’re worried about his cap hit, you could have buried it in Abbotsford next season.
But no, this team did everything possible so we could secure some meaningless wins at the end of the year.
Why?
It’s really easy if you think about it… The same reason that they go for it every season…
Money.
It’s so in their end of season message to the season ticket holders they can say “hey look how strong we finished, please renew”
Don’t believe the lie folks. Don’t spend your money on this team.
N4ZZY2020
The Canucks way. Organizationally don’t understand how to win and they can’t fucking tank properly either. That leaves us with a franchise that will always be middling of the road which is exactly where we will be for the foreseeable future. Good bye Bedard. Hello mediocrity and depression.

It must be exhausting having to be this pessimistic to make your living.

Why do these posts and threads never address the plan for Petey, Hughes and Demko alongside their tank plan?
Ask yourselves how long a rebuild you want and double it, that’s what will happen if you piss off those 3
LionManMan
Yeah even Friedman was pointing out how much easier the schedule looked following the point of Boudreau’s firing. Speculated that that was the reason for the delayed timing of Bruce being fired.
NerdPunch
Drance/Dom more or less are saying, this team was doomed for a dead cat bounce between strength of schedule and the return of Demko.
Tochett and the players can’t just take nights off.. they are all there trying to compete hard and set a different standard competitively.

Stop listening to Drance, look back at his articles and live comments about draft pics and other hockey related issues. He is wrong about 85% of the time.

I couldn’t write a more pretentious sentence about hockey if I tried for a hundred years. I wonder if Drance gets tired of being the single smartest person who ever lived?
Reddititfortat
Bottom line is. This team is too good to be a bottom feeder. In fact. When healthy, they are pretty close to playoff territory. And when demko plays the way he can, they are 100% playoff caliber.
Thats the reality. We missed a nice opportunity tho. Like Colorado years ago. We traded Bo. We had like 9 guys on LTIR and we had AHL goaltending for like 45 games. And even with all that. We were only a few wins away from being outside the top 10 draft pick 🙁

Drance is very smart…
…but his hockey smarts are wasted because he can never be objective.
He always sees everything through the lens of ‘if they did anything that I didn’t suggest they do then they are idiots’.
Is there ever a case where management does something he didn’t suggest and it was actually the right move (as in ‘I was wrong and they were right’).
Brandon Batchelor was on being interviewed after the Hronek deal and it was almost painful to listen to. Batchelor was being objective and Drance couldn’t take even the tiniest step towards objectivity. It became uncomfortable to listen to.

As long as they keep on winning, I have no concern how they do it.

drance 1000% since after the first year he’s covered the team has known this organizations direction and intention more than anyone, and he understands what a good hockey team does instead. We just don’t like to hear it because it’s never good news for us.
Guys giving a name back to intellectual honesty. u/artemchubarov keep steppin on these fools necks, and if u see this I am so sorry u have to debate Canucks with Farhan Lalji who is off base 50% of the time which is kinda fucking shocking, like bro gets the most obvious shit misconstrued lol

The only time drance is happy is when the team is losing, guy literally laughs at people’s pain, and when they win he looks sad as fuck and try’s to bring everyone down. I can’t stand the guy
mikeythecreature
And yet some fans will continually buy into this perpetual carousel of mediocrity. It’s sad that just making the playoffs knowing the team will be unsuccessful is all some fans want. Few things would fill my heart with more joy than watching this team when the cup before my father passes. He still has plenty of good years but not at this rate. What are we on now? 12 years a retooling.

Thomas Drance is a putz. Send him back to Florida where the market is as worthless as his opinions. How’s that Calgary juggernaut going? Confident idiot.
