  1. Most underrated goal scorer of all time, because he plays in a non traditional hockey market.

Had he played in Toronto or Montreal? He would be as big as Crosby or McDavid

  2. Just crazy how Stamkos is known for scoring goals (being a 50 and 60-goal scorer), yet he's got more career assists than he has goals. Safe to say #91 will be in the rafters shortly after he retires.

  3. As a Tampa native, I didn't know much about hockey. I think Steven Stamkos has been the best captain to guide our fans into Lightning love. He is always visiting hospitals, especially the children's wards. He donates time & money to Metropolitan Ministries, especially buying toys for the children. You can often find him at charity events around town. Love his passion for hockey, but also for people.

  4. That 2008 World Junior Gold courtesy of Matt Halischuk's golden goal (set up by a Victor Hedman turnover lol)

  5. Excellent recap! So glad Tampa kept Stammer even though I thought he was gone numerous times. 500 goals is a great accomplishment and to do it with the same team is more rare.

  6. As a long time Tampa native and huge Bolts fan, I could not be happier for Stammer. He is so deserving and one of the better captains league wide

  7. If only he was as healthy as Ovi, he would probably scored his 600th or even 650th last night. He had and still has a shooting talent right there with Ovi, but he is not the same guy after so many injuries.

  8. I was still in high school when he started here in Tampa in 2008. He actually visited my HS the year after I graduated. Was so pissed I missed that lol but yeah, he’s a legend down here. GOAT status

  9. When I saw young Stamkos, when he first got to Tampa Bay, I thought he was the closest thing to Bossy I'd seen, besides Bossy himself. Not only his scoring, but his style, his shot, the way he got his shot off, his way of disappearing on the ice (to the other team's defensemen) and then reappearing when the goal opportunity was available. Because of injuries, he's had to change his game some, but still producing numbers. A first ballot HOF'er for sure.

  10. Still unbelievable all of the different curveballs that have been involved to keep him out of the Olympics. 2026 might be his year though!??

  11. Remember when Melrose wouldn’t play him (sheltered minutes, etc.) and he still finished w/ 23 goals and 46 pts on basically 3rd Liner minutes his rookie season.

I still say cream rises to the top no matter what vessel it’s put in, but the wrong diary farmer can still curdle a promising player’s career.

  12. Always liked Stamkos. Man's a real dog. He's done good work for my fantasy team over the years as well. Nothing but the best for Stammer.

  13. Watching his whole career for my hometown team has been such a pleasure. A lot of people from ownership to Yzerman/JBB to the other star players deserve credit for what the franchise has become over the past 13 years, but having that star franchise player in Stamkos has very much spearheaded the charge. Not to mention, his leadership has been second to none. I shudder to think how different things would have gone if one of our owners in 2009 didn't block the dumb idea of trading him to the Rangers. Great video again, Shannon.

  14. I was at the game last night. When Stamkos scored I applauded and cheered. And I’m a Canucks fan. Congrats, Stammer.

  15. Steve should be the spokesman for bone glue. Dude broke his leg and was back for the playoffs in 4 weeks.

  16. As a canucks fan, he's absolutely my favorite player in the league to watch. And his jersey is the only non-canuck one I have. Was happy to see him and Tampa get their cups. Thanks for putting this together Shannon! 🙂

  17. I remember the night Stam got drafted telling my little brother how good he was. Man time flies.

  18. I remember when he flew up to Toronto when he was negotiating his new contract… They asked him if he was comfortable losing on purpose for draft picks, and he came rite back to Tampa and signed. Worked out great!

  19. I went to the same public school he did.. not while he was there, he was older, but the teachers definitely let us know he went there, did well in class & his hockey (obviously)

  20. In that 2011 playoff run, they lost 1-0 to Boston in the 7th game of the ECF; Think about that from a Canucks standpoint.

  21. They said he couldn't play in the NHL
They said he’d never live up to the hype
They said he’d never re-sign in Tampa
They said he’d never be the same from the injuries
They said he’d never captain a cup winning team
They said 500 goals was out of reach and unrealistic.

Stammer has proved all his naysayers wrong and has done so while being the epitome of class, resiliency and leadership. Its been an absolute pleasure watching him for nearly 15 years now. Not enough emphasis is put on how Steven saved this franchise from relocating during their darkest days in the Len Barrie/Oren Koules era. He's easily the most important player in Lightning history if not Tampa sports history.

  23. That one lone goal in the Stanley Cup Final was an incredible moment for everyone in Tampa and will never be forgotten.. and it was one goal more than what the Dallas captain put up in that series.

  24. Since Stamkos entered the NHL, I thought he was the closest player to Brett Hull pretty much ever.

  25. Just as much good off the the ice with stammer as on, he's a remarkable guy, a true leader and face of the franchise, and if stammer didn't stay in Tampa I'd bet the 2 cups would not have happened.

  26. Worth noting at the time of his injury in 16-17 his 20 points was top of the league

  27. In my opinion Stamkos has been a superstar since his 2nd year.
I also think that other than Ovechkin, Stamkos has been the best goal scorer in the 2010s
