[Portzline] The Blue Jackets firmly felt they had a deal in place with Boston for more than a week that would have sent defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to the Bruin. The Jackets wanted to flip the Boston first rounder for Chychrun but Boston repeatedly asked for more time.

  1. The Summer of Jarmo is starting off quite chilly.

Another example of Boston running circles around us

Edit: downvote this all you want but we would all kill to have half the playoff success as Boston

  3. I don’t need additional reasons to think the Boston Bruins are a piece of shit organization

Bruh were we actually going to get Chychrun…..

This has got to be incredibly frustrating for Jarmo

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I don’t think this is all as shady as we’re making it out to be. The original report was Gavrikov for a 1st and a 3rd but Boston needed to move Craig Smith in order to make the salary worked. In moving Craig Smith, they were offered a solid defenseman and depth forward. I can’t say I blame them. If the shoe was on the other foot we would all say it was a fleece by Jarmo.

If this turn of events were set in stone, maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world that we got the rug pulled out from under us. Say this deal goes through and we do end up getting Chychrun. If Jarmo doesn’t then flip him for more assets, does the addition of Chychrun screw up the tank this year? Say we finish 3rd or 4th to last this year and lose out on both lottery picks, in hindsight, is it worth trying to force a trade for a defenseman that doesn’t fit our rebuild timeline?

People are overreacting on either side. Sweeney is a scumbag for not taking Gavi or Jarmo is terrible for not getting the deal done. The best deal was the one that got done. This is a business and the winners are the one’s who get the best deal for their team.

Now Jarmo has to get another deal done, the longer it takes and the more teams that fill their needs, the worse Gavi’s value gets. Just get a first, insisting on more value is going to price him out of the market.
