It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Penguins have been a massive disappointment this season and to start the show, Hunter looks at how it came to this. He goes into the numbers with how the Penguins were set up beautifully with their top players coming back at discounts and how Ron Hextall butchered the rest of the lineup badly. He looks at how it shouldn’t have been so hard for him to make a few changes because the core players take up less than $30 million combined for this season. It is not and has not been the core’s fault all year. In the second segment, Hunter discusses a Jeff Petry rumor he saw today and what he’s heard about it. He also analyzes Petry’s season so far and why it wouldn’t really make much sense to deal him unless you’re getting Timo Meier or someone similar in return. That said, is there a defenseman that he would move to free up some space? Stick around for that answer. To end the show, Hunter dissects what Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed on the Jeff Marek Show on Tuesday and why the Penguins need to say no to adding sandpaper (unless that player can score).

Petry hasn't been good with Pittsburgh
I would be happy with a one stop shop of McCabe and Domi or shenn and Boeser. But if there's one person I definitely would love to see in Pitt that would be Henrique
If the Pens continue to play like they have, so far, this season, they will miss the playoffs. They've won only 56.25% of the points available. Continuing at that pace, they end up with a total of 92 or 93 points. Two teams that missed the playoffs, last season, are currently ahead of them, and playing much better than the Pens have been.
They, absolutely, do need to add toughness in a skilled physical player. Zucker can't do it alone. The years they've won the Cup, they've had guys like Hornqvist, Kessel, and Kunitz (for the last two Cups) or Staal, Kunitz, Fedotenko, and Talbot (for the two against Detroit) in their top ten playoff scorers. Just big bodies in front of the net.
They don't need a goon, but they do need someone to keep guys like Wilson, Trouba, etc. honest. Someone like Tanner Jeanot could be a good addition. Young, physical, has some scoring touch, plus, his cap hit for this season was 800k and he's an RFA after this season.
If the Pens do miss the playoffs, we'll, most likely, see Hextall, and maybe Sully, fired. It wouldn't be the first time we've seen a coach given a nice extension and then fired at the end of the first year of that extension, because ownership felt he lost the players.
