AcquireMeier Task Force is so committed they want last call on any deal. I feel like this is gonna go right down to the trade deadline.

    Hey! DF Here

Just to clarify what this means – it’s clear from the interview with Friedman that NJ is still very much pushing for Meier, but what is referenced here is something like a “Right of first refusal”. Basically, while Fitz pushes his own offer, he’s trying to make sure that Meier isn’t traded to another team before NJ has the chance to respond to that final offer.

IMO it should be taken as a good sign of clear interest. It doesn’t mean that NJ is out, or that they’re waiting for another team to make a move. Just security that they’ll get a call in case another team makes an offer good enough for SJ to accept

That’s nice and all, but…JUST GET HIMMMMMM.

I’m glad fitz isn’t willing to get outbid but I’m worried about what the cost will go up to. I’m not sure if this is as smart as it looks. He’s basically admitting to SJ that he knows he can go higher.

Any idea as to if there’s any conversations with Bratt happening now?

I really don’t think the holdup would be the mix of prospects/picks. It will likely be the contact negotiation. 9.5+ would be tough to manage if that’s what he wants, but that’s true for Carolina, Buffalo, etc. too. That may make this an offseason move.

I’m waiting for the inevitable meltdown of this sub if Fitz decides trading for Meier is not worth it. We’ll end up with Buchnevich and everyone will say Fitz “panicked” like the Palat signing

Edit: think some people misunderstood me here. I would be over the moon with Buchnevich, not as much as Meier but up there. I just know this sub is gonna have a meltdown if he goes to Carolina

Nemec is not untouchable. We need a winger to play with Jack more than we need a young cost controlled D-man(Luke fits that bill).

We need a Championship roster. Our plethora of prospects will help get us there, either through trades or cheap contracts.

    Let’s fucking go.

Imagine nico working overtime to sell Timo the devils too.

  10. SuperCorgi1

Does this not sound like the worst news to be going around? If I was SanJose now, even if I was going to accept a devils trade, I would just call and say I was trading with the Canes to get the devils to up it even more

Anyone else having ptsd from the Johnny G situation this summer?

  12. Element23VM

I’m guessing this means that they have a standing offer for Meier that SJ hasn’t pulled the trigger on because maybe they want more than what’s being offered.

They can afford both Timo and Bratt at $8.5-9m. Bratt SHOULDN’T take anything more than a 4 year deal. He would be insane to sign anything longer. He could get 3-4/$8.5-9 now, get to 27yo, and get another 8/$8-10m deal. If he signs for 8 now he leaves $30m on the table. And that’s just dumb. Timo should sign the 7-8 year deal now. They should hold on to Nemec and Hughes and pretty much make any other prospects available. 30 goal scorers don’t come along at his age. They need to make sure they get him. The window is now. No need to hold off.

Man trade deadline hype is crazy Iol. Let’s hope we don’t have a meltdown if we don’t get him.

My impression of this is that the Devils have made an offer SJ is heavily considering and they are doing last calls.

Timo saying he wants to be on a contender might rule out Buffalo, that QA gives him unusual leverage in this deal since everyone will want to extend him. I know the Leafs are interested but do they really have the prospects? I think it’s between Canes and Devils right now but we’ll see.

Tbh if the bulk of the trade came down to Nemec and non 1st rd picks I would be ok with it if NJ keeps their 1st, or maybe a conditional 1st/2nd.

Who knows if SJ will give Fitz a last chance but it sounds like NJ is at least very close to a deal.

  15. Love it. Also, totally willing to walk away in favor of players like O’Reilly or Barbashev, since NJ is really hurting for that physical kind of play, if the price is too high. Let’s not forget, price can vary from team to team and NJ might be being asked for something very different from some other teams.

Safe to infer from this (1) that the Devils have made an offer for Meier, and (2) that said offer is less than SJ is willing to accept (at least right now).

IOW, the Devils have very likely gone beyond reaching out and opening talks in general terms, but have instead gotten to the point of a specific formal offer. But they are currently separated on players/picks going to SJ. SJ does not believe the current offer is good enough.

  17. EriccusThegreat

This man! Idk if I’m in the minority here but why does it feel like most of this sub is in win now mode?
We will only get better for the next 3-6 years I’m not willing to risk the future

  18. HockeyFan_37

Honestly pretty nervous about Fitz’s “no one makes more than Jack” comment. Did he clarify or am I misunderstanding or something?

  19. BasedCaesar

Unpopular opinion but instead of overpaying for Meier I’d rather see a good move for a serviceable defenseman or two.
