Well, good thing I saved the Isles for near the last of the teams I made a video on for this series.

Even with the acquisition of Horvat, I just don't think that the isles will make the playoffs. They'd have to get through the caps, pens and sabres and I don't think they're better than any of those three.
THG wearing the Isles jersey two days in a row 👏. I'm also positive about our playoff chances. If we get in we can do some damage. True hockey fans know regular season standings are meaningless once the playoffs start. LGI
If Shannon reads this comment have fun on your trip you deserve some time off.
I really have to give you huge kudos. Your take on this trade, yesterday's video and this one, are right on the money. You have more nuanced knowledge about the Islanders than I've given you credit for. No, it's not that you think the Islanders won this trade if Horvat signs with them. I agree because I don't happen to think that much of Aatu Raty. His max is 2nd line center. He is a plodding skater but his other skills are above average. He's also a dedicated 20 year old so I think he'll play in the NHL. What has me shaking my head is that the Canadian media is overrating Beauvillier as a solid middle six player. He's not. The guy has been pretty good in the playoffs but hasn't done it over any long stretches. He has talent but is an immature pro. Canadian media is almost universally calling this a win already for the Canucks but to me the Isles have the edge. Not an overwhelming edge but it's a good trade for both teams. A disaster for Isles if they don't sign him but Lou is too shrewd for that. Big key will be this year's draft pick.
Shannon, great video as always. However, Barzal has not been our MVP. Hopefully Horvat performs great on the island, but Sorokin has that MVP title secured without a doubt
Sorokin MVP
If the islanders make the playoffs (and I hoping) it would be a spring miracle
Barzal should be on the wing. I think playing center has held him back. You put him with Horvat at C and, probably, Parise as LW. Parise's old, but still has something left. That could be a pretty good line. I've been disappointed with the Islanders this year. I thought they'd do better than they have. Let's see what happens now.
The Islanders scoring is dismal at best another move is needed
ring ring…
Alvin: Hello, who's this…
Senile Lou: Oh, I forgot why I was calling you again!
Alvin: Wait…wait…Was the call about Bo?
Senile Lou: Bo who? Beauvilier you mean?
Alvin: Yeah…
Senile Lou: Which one is Tony again?
So what happens to the all star game… bo is on Van but moved to east – HMMMM
I feel like people are underestimating this trade. I ain't no hockey analyst, but if you put a guy who scores a lot of goals (Horva) with a guy who makes a lot of assists (Barzal), it seems like it would be really good. Yes they both play center, but surely they could figure something out.
Playoffs or not, team has half a season to play. The fans know what this team has been capable of but as long he season moved along seemed the top conference teams were improving. Isles are expected to be up there with the top teams. Sorokin gives them that edge but they were essentially down to one scoring line. Reminds me of the trade BOS made to acquire Taylor Hall for more skill. Hopefully Horvat re-signs. Although they consider the Isles forwards old just look at BOS forwards and even the NYR top vet forwards are similar age.
Horvat now has the esteemed honour of being in two all star break videos
Pageau has been the main guy who has won the most faceoffs for the islanders ever since he got traded and was great on the power play.
You said in your 2018 mock draft the Islanders style means less goals. How do you think it will affect Horvat? I think we should change our style and let the horses run. We have pretty solid D, and we're good in goal. If the chains were off we have some guys that could light it up.
love the fisherman jersey
First thing first, it's all about the PP. If this trade doesn't turn our dumpster fire of a PP into something resembling at least mediocre, then fire everyone. It's been bad for far too long, even when we were a playoff team. Second, it's someone that can take the pressure off of both Barzal and Brock. As much as they are very good players, neither of them are truly able to maintain a true 1st line load and roll. 3rd, it brings someone who I think is a much better compliment to Lee and hopefully can bring his game up to where it used to be as far goal production is concerned (aka when he played with pajama boy). It might be too little, too late, as these last few weeks have been brutal, but one decent streak and they likely can claw their way back into it, and adding Horvat just might do it.
I can't ignore Buffalo, Washington or Pittsburgh and think we had a shot before this move, now we have a fighting chance. Sorokin's playing his heart out without the wins to show how steady he has been, my MVP so far.
I'm ecstatic for our future and the remainder of this season, Horvat does help Offensively. He will give Pageau some rest on face-offs, nothing worse than chasing the puck to your end after losing one on the PP.
After watching the Islanders play Minnesota I can say this
They play not to lose instead of playing
To win unless they change there style
Of play it won't really matter
Casey Cizikas (currently-minus Horvat being there) is the Islanders best faceoff guy. Unfortunately, Cizikas is also have a career year in penalty minutes. Had to edit this as someone mentioned JG Pageau as the other faceoff guy. The last two rentals for the Islanders were Ryan Smith and Thomas Vanek. That didn't turn out great.
IT'S AWESOME BO, BARZY and NELLY LGI !!!!
The Islanders MVP has been Sorokin..and it's not even close.
Lou probably has signed Horvat already and we won't know until a week before training camp lol
A puck moving defenseman and another top 6 forward is needed for serious contention. The competition in the East is going to be fierce.
Barzal on the wing with Horvat will be pretty solid. With Nelson and Pageau down the middle that’s pretty solid.
Somebody mentioned on another channel that if Horvat really isn't moving the needle for the Isles, that they can still move him before the trade deadline.
So, let’s say that the Islanders do not improve enough to make the playoffs. And Horvat decides to test free agency. Two “IFs” but possible IF’s. Would Lou trade him? Again? And look for a haul?
Their mvp has been sorokin, for shits sake you could give him mvp of the league this year 😂😂
If sorokin isn’t playing
As good as he is. This trade wouldn’t happen.
I have not been on the Islanders not makin’it bandwagon..with so many teams vying for those Eastern wildcard spots.. Isles have the goaltending the solid savvy veteran core..and now they add a dynamic scoring forward. 🥅🏒✅
Number 14 Bo Horvat
hoping that barzy gets moved to the wing with the addition of yet another centerman, or maybe nelson could move.
I also think they're a first round exit if they make it, without trotz's (admittedly boring) system idk about our playoff chances.
I would put Sorokin or Nelson as the MVP
GET RID OF THE FISHERMAN JERSEY
SIROKIN IS A TERRIBLE GOALIE, TOO MANY OPEN NET GOALS
Seems like the Isles still need to make some moves to get over the hump. I'm sure Lou acquired Bo expecting to re-sign him long term. It was an opportunity to snap up a great player and he took it.
Isles scored a gem. Not unlike Dallas prying Pavelski out of San Jose. Horvat is a very solid step in the right direction.
Shannon, people seem to forget when healthy this team was between 2nd-4th in the conference BEFORE injuries to Pelech, Palmieri, Wahlstrom, and Cluttbuck all within 2 weeks of each other. Horvat is a huge addition, I would like to see Lou get a solid defenseman just in case Pelech or Pulock goes down, cause they always seem to struggle when one of them gets hurt. Which is pretty much when this skid started. Next 8 games they have a good chance to move up cause 3 teams are currently in the playoffs and 2 games are against Pittsburgh.
Isles Goals for per game 2.8
Goals against per game. 2.7
Add a 30-40 goal scorer and we are in the playoffs.
Last year we were 20 goals away from the playoffs.
How people think this was a bad idea I don’t understand.
Isles need to drop some Cap space. Bailey really needs to go, there’s cheaper options there, same for Palmieri, but that’s not likely and if possible there’s cheaper options than Varlamov and you’d be able to get something for him.
Solokin is our mvp not even a question he is by far our best player, barzel isn't playing well this year is defense is so much worse this year compared to the last few years
He realized it was solokin b4 the video ended lol
Lou has got a team locked in pretty solid for the next few years. Maybe it’s fatigue from going up against the lightning for a couple years but these guys are a good team. Now with Horvat and still a bit of cap room.
Wow.
I was shocked when I saw all the term left on the islanders.
Hopefully they have a great second half here.
Good for them.
