What the Bo Horvat Trade Means for the Minnesota Wild as they Seek Top Six Help!

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we react to the Bo Horvat trade! We try to figure out what it would have cost the Wild to acquire Horvat, and the reasons that Bill Guerin ultimately chose not to go for him. We look at why Horvat going to the Islanders and not other Central Division rivals is a win for the Wild even though they did not end up getting him themselves. We look at the Eastern and Western Conferences to see which other teams are far enough out of contention to be deemed sellers. We also look at whether or not those teams have players that could offer a top six upgrade. We discuss the Florida Panthers, their cap situation, and why for them to start creating space it may be time for them to swing big, and the Wild could be in a perfect opportunity to try to capitalize!

  1. I don't think Guerin is actually looking for top 6 scoring help via trade. I do think Guerin is saying the right things to keep people in the seats @ Xcel Center. Time will tell (1 month)
This team isn't a cup contender and no one player outside McJesus can change that fact.
I'd love to see Guerin move Dumba for an AHL/College prospect.

  2. I don’t think Guerin is bringing in a true top 6 forward at this point. He values his prospects and picks too much to throw at a rental. He looks at this as a long term plan. If he brings someone in, it’s like an Anthony Duclaire level pickup, and I’m honestly ok with that. Hopefully dumba can bring in a pick or a prospect. Just keep building this team for when the opportunity is right. Once the bruh contracts and buyouts come off the books, then Guerin can take some risks and be a buyer.

  3. I still haven't heard anything from the back room which means Billy is working on something, I think Billy went after Horvat but couldn't get a long term deal
There's still alot of time left there not going to let Dumba walk for nothing

  4. I understand that potential trades, rentals etc. are the life blood of podcasters. Several years ago Jack Eichel completely dominated nhl hockey podcasts for months on end. It became very tedious to watch, as did this podcast! I catch your daily updates every chance I get. I guess when there is nothing else to report I would prefer updates on the Iowa Wild, and how Wilds current prospects are doing.
