I’m not a fan, it looks like it’s trying to be the Flames logo. I understand that there may be a redesign one day, but every design I’ve seen to replace the Indian head has been terrible imo

I’m not sure what you’d do with this since the obvious route if you’re going to do something like it is to use a native American, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much I like a lot of the old school more cartoonish logos from the earlier days of the leagues, like the elf for the Cleveland Browns. Something changed and you could never imagine a pro sports team with a smiling logo now but I do think we have moved far enough away from the 2000s, the Spike TV aesthetic, when every expansion team’s colors had to be dark and muted and every logo had to be hyper aggressive and scowling, to maybe do something more interesting? I wouldn’t describe the current logo as cartoonish but it is timeless because of its detail, it hasn’t been simplified down into like 3 big lines, and because he doesn’t have to be like, gnashing his teeth with his hair on fire.

I mean I think this is on the right track as far as layout. But why not keep the classic art style we have on the current logo? I’m in favor of keeping the Indian head, but if we have to change it I like the idea of a side profile of a bird with the feathers involved.

So the misconception is that we’re named after Blackhawks Indians. We’re named after Chief Black Hawk, who was a Sauk Indian.
If we were some kind of hawk or other, I’d get it, but we aren’t.
And, we have the single best logo in all of sports. I would never support a change to the logo, and if they did it I’d manufacture my own shit and have the Indian embroidered without permission.

I get the beak is supposed to be making a ‘C’, but make a similar logo with the beak totally closed and it might work should team management decide to change the logo at some point in the future

As a working designer and Blackhawks fan going on 40 years, I find it bland, dated, and frankly, flaccid. The feathers on the brow almost look like fur, the curvature on the feathers is not uniform, and the end result is that it looks wimpy. The four feathers not gathered into a bunch remind me of the Flyers, Blues, and Red Wings, and given that two of those three are rivals, this is a miss for me.
Having said that, I would be surprised if the team nickname and/or logo hadn’t been changed in another 5-10 years from now. If they want to keep the nickname, bird imagery is a logical place to go, I just think that there is a better solution out there.
