The Bruce Boudreau Firing Has Us Appreciating the Colorado Avalanche Even More

The Vancouver Canucks did Bruce Boudreau wrong and everyone knows it. But when things like that happen, it always makes us take a step back and really appreciate how the Colorado Avalanche is run as an organization.

The Avalanche could have cut ties with Jared Bednar after his first season, and honestly, people would have probably understood if they did. And if they did, they would have gone about it the right way. Not like what Vancouver did too good old Bruce.

We also take a look at the Avs recent, and very successful road trip as well as prepare for the very up-and-down Washington Capitals.

  1. Well, the org won't even stoop to the Canucks level buuuuut there was…a time….not too distant in the rear view mirror where it was pinching pennies and ran by epic idiocy & good ol-boy mentality lol

  2. Seattle reminds me of a modern day version of the 03 Wild. Exceptional defensive structure, they lock everything up and completely neutralize any speed advantage you might have and just wait for you to make a mistake and have the depth to capitalize all through the lineup.

Also they are spooky for the playoffs, usually a team has to learn how to win in the playoffs but they are built with guys who have won already. Go look at that roster, they are stacked with playoff champs

  3. We will see if the great 8 play. Ovi missed Saturdays game resting an LBI. Oshie is also out because he is expecting his fourth child.
They said Ovi did skate today but is still uncertain Avs may get a slightly weakened Caps squad.
I do believe we may see NAK attack I though house again along with Kuemper though

  5. So nice seeing the Avs playing more like we’re all accustomed to seeing them play. Solid move letting Cale heal up whatever minor injury is ailing him and getting a rest while snagging all 6pts on the road trip. Funny that even though the Seattle game was close, I never felt concerned they were going to lose that game which is how I felt from January on last season. And kudos to the goaltending as both guys are playing phenomenal right now.

  6. I'd love to see Bruce take Tocchet's position as an analyst on TNT. Hehehe.
That Seattle game was a new test of character for the Avs and they met the challenge. After turning it around and whipping a few teams, they had to grind one out and they did it. That had to be a huge boost of "baby we're back" confidence. Hockey is fun to watch again – and even when they lose again, it won't feel the way it did in those games right after the new year.

  7. Nuke is the key to both the PP and PK. Underrated at both and we love it😉

  8. Unpopular opinion: I miss Roy as a coach. I think what he did for the team goes often unnoticed and un appreciated. He took the avs from second last in the league the year before he started to 3rd in the league his first year. He made drastic changes and made moves like pulling the goalie with 5+min left to come back and win games. Him and Sakic also drafted 2 of Colorados biggest stars to date being Mackinnon and Rantanen. If him and the Canadians didnt hate each other so much he probably would have had a huge opportunity to coach them. Bednar isn't the worst coach, but he is far from being one of the best that's for sure

  9. Every time you guys miss a day, I'm in full panic mode. "They Got Cancelled!!!" You guys are important to me. I tend to wake up in the morning and start thinking negatively about life, etc. When you two are there to talk about my favorite subject, it causes me to have a better day. I feel fortunate for that.

  10. This was handled very badly by the Canucks. The owners should have stepped in. Embarrassing for Rutherford. The most impressive of the three Avs wins – without Makar! I follow the Kraken and I agree with you guys, they look like Avalanche 2, but like Chris said, without the big names. I put some $ on them to win the cup, great quote, and as the Blues taught us all – you never know!

  11. With all due respect (seriously) I thought it was downright silly to be thinking about hitting the panic button with this team (after watching them closely for the last 3-4 years). Nobody seems to really understand that what we saw was the final little bit of Stanley Cup "hangover" dissipating… they hit an otherworldly level of flow and momentum starting January last year (like the Blues in '19 or Boston this year) and they had to come down off that mountain, so to speak…. Add to that that physically they only had July and August to recover and then one can understand the first half of this season.

But it was really mental and emotional, and that game vs. Chicago was the bottom… our podcast guy from DNVR got it right: after that game, he said that the Avs need(ed) to decide that this was rock bottom. And apparently they did. And now they're fine… I personally don't think anyone is going to take out Boston this year, but we do still play the games cos anything can happen!!! Go Avs!!!

  12. The way Boudreau's departure was handled highlights where the problem in Vancouver is (and has been), and it sure wasn't the coach.

  13. Can't agree on the owners. I struggle to legally watch both the avs and nuggets and it is their fault. I also don't share the Bednar hate, but I do think the coaching staff as a whole underperforms. How long are the avs going to have a terrible pk? When are they going to stop allowing the royal road crossing passes that have plagued them for years?
